In Celebration of

Melanie Greenan

January 5, 1967 -  August 7, 2017

We are heartbroken to announce Melanie’s (Mel’s) passing on Monday, August 7, 2017 at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga at the age of only 50 years; the end of a courageous 10 year battle against breast cancer. Melanie was a beloved daughter of her father Paul Greenan and her mother Rosemary and is loved dearly by her sister Merrylee (Mer’d) and her brother Jay. Mel, life will not be as good without you.

Melanie was born in Toronto, Ontario, in 1967 and grew up in Unionville and Mississauga. She graduated from Holy Name of Mary high school and continued her education graduating from Queen's University, obtained a Teaching certificate at York University and did post-graduate studies at the University of Toronto.

Melanie pursued her passion for teaching with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board who she worked for 26 years as an elementary Teacher, VP, and a Program Coordinator for the Board and for the Ministry of Education. Melanie had a special talent with young children. Her fun loving and outgoing spirit, compassion and love of kids made her that very special teacher as well as daughter, sister and friend.

Melanie loved life and living it. Some of her favorite things were her summers at Thunder Beach where she loved to boat, play tennis, golf, barbeque and spend time with her friends and family and of course her dogs, (Daisy,Basil). We will miss her famous Thanksgiving dinners. There was never a dull moment when Mel was around. For anyone who new Mel; you know she was a tour de force.

We love you Mel.

For those that wish to make a donation, and in the spirit of Mel, kindly purchase yourself or someone else a lottery ticket from the Canadian Cancer Society

Mel was a friend, student and colleague . Mel became a mentor to Lyn. Lyn and Jim will always feel Mel's interest and passion for students, new ideas and thoughtful conversations over their shoulders. Mel's zest for life and astonishing breadth of interests inspires us to continue to put faces on every student in every class. For educators who knew Mel well, her memory will grow every time they try one of her new ideas or develop "a big idea". We will all miss Mel's wicked sense of humour and her zest for life. We are very sad at our loss. Mel was special to all of us.

My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to Mel's family during this difficult time. Working with Mel was an amazing experience, and becoming friends an even better one. She was kind, smart, loving and super funny. She will be missed greatly. She was the strongest woman I know. Sincerely, April

I will always remember Melanie growing up on West Shore...riding her bike, walking our Boxers, playing drop-in tennis, dinner at the boathouse. You grew into a lovely, talented, professional woman and I will miss your smiling face!
