In Celebration of

Sheila Jean McDonald

January 8, 1937 -  March 21, 2024

We are heartbroken but celebrating the wonderful life of Sheila Jean McDonald who passed away peacefully on March 21, 2024 in her 87th year with her family by her side.

Sheila was born Sheila Jean Ablett in Penticton, B.C. on January 8th, 1937. She was the loving daughter of Arthur and Mae Ablett and the treasured sibling to Doug, Vivian, Ab, Gordie, Richard and Donna. In 1956 she married Godfrey McDonald in Salmo, B.C. That started a journey through many mining towns over her husband’s career to finally settle in Mississauga, Ontario.

She will be sadly missed by her children Dean (Carol) and Gwen-Ella (John), and granddaughter Joanna (Quinn).

Funeral services and Celebration of Life will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 2473 Thorn Lodge Drive, Mississauga, Ontario on Thursday, April 4th at 11:00 AM.

She was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children, granddaughter and adopted grandchildren (JD, Kevin and Krista) and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as grandma/nana. She was a caring lady who had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She made friends where ever she went.

Those who knew her would know her love for elephants which symbolize her strength, wisdom, and loyalty. Sheila was a pillar of strength providing unwavering support, guidance, and unconditional love to those she held dear. Whether that was supporting friends through difficult times or working with special needs children at Erin Oak Kids she made it her mission to improve the lives of others. She leaves behind a legacy of deep care and affection that will be sorely missed.

Sheila had a passion for travelling with her husband around the world. For over 20 years they were snowbirds in Arizona where she could be occasionally found at the local casinos. Each year they unfailingly travelled back to B.C. to see family and friends. When not travelling she could be found each morning (with her Diet Pepsi) dutifully watching Regis and Kelly and later iterations on TV.

She was immensely proud of her family and leaves nothing but beautiful memories. Though she may be gone, her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she loved and in memories shared by all those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her love and friendship.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Credit Valley Hospital for their care and compassion.

In lieu of sending flowers please make a donation to the Kidney Foundation or Diabetes Canada.

Condolences to the family. I knew her through Deb/JD. Always loved chatting with her whenever we met at a Fisher gathering. So interesting and so funny - she could always make you laugh! She often had some news to share about her family - she was proud of all of you. She had a great life and know the many great memories of her will help you through this difficult time now and in the years to come.

For many years, the four of us, every Tuesday, would dine on wings and salads with Sheila and Graham enjoying our diet Pepsi, Graham usually finishing Sheila's. Silly but fond memories. And then there was card night on Wednesday evenings, The Gorilla will miss you, Sheila, as will many friends and neighbours at the complex. Rest in peace, dear friend. No more pain now.

Sheila was a wonderful person and we feel privileged to have called her a good friend for 50 years. Our family will miss her loving nature, big hugs, contagious laugh and strong support. She was very proud and passionate about her family and truly loved and cared about the people who came into her life.
