Max Berketa
Passed away, at 82 years, on Friday August 29th, 2014 with his daughter Karen (Richard) by his side. Predeceased by his wife Barbara (2001). He will be sorely missed by his heartbroken grandchildren, Chantelle Paiva (Mike), Tiffany Locicero (Joey) and Deandra Pallotta (Tony). His 6 great grandchildren, Caitlin, Joshua, Jenna, Giuliana, Gianluca and Taylor will certainly hear lots of stories about Grandpa Max as they grow up. Max was extremely close to his brother Ron (Mary) who will miss him dearly along with his nieces, Stephanie Dawe (Gregg) and Christine Yuzwin (Nick). A school principal in York Township at the age of 38 until his retirement in 1993, he always said he created the best schools around. He would advocate for whatever was needed and would usually get it. A powerful personality, most people had a hard time saying no to Max. As an owner, horseracing was Max’s passion and he was a familiar face at Woodbine Racetrack and other tracks for many years. He made many friends wherever he went and he was very consistent in keeping in touch with them. He had an infectious laugh, super animated jokes, and a variety of one line phrases that he would say with a twinkle in his eye. Max was larger than life and we have lost a truly unique individual that has inspired so many. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of the Jane Subway on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service in the Chapel on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Toronto Wildlife Centre or an Animal Rescue charity of your choice.
