In Celebration of

Mary Margaret (Mimi) Cipollone (née LaCroix)

February 17, 1950 -  June 1, 2017

With great sadness, we announce the death of Mimi Cipollone. After living bravely and gracefully with cancer for three years, she passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family on June 1, 2017. Mimi will be remembered as a compassionate, generous, pragmatic person with immense joie de vivre and a deep love of family. After graduating from York University in 1971, she began working for the welfare department in Toronto, later joining the TDSB as a special needs assistant. Working with children came naturally to Mimi, and she was dedicated to serving her community. Mimi had a resilient spirit and tremendous strength, along with a sharp wit. She was adventurous, and had a lifelong love of travel. Mimi was a talented textile artist and an accomplished dressmaker and knitter, with a flair for design. Predeceased by her husband of 41 years Wayne, and her son Michael, she is survived by her loving daughters Jane and Anna, and her devoted partner Henrik Jacobsen. Cherished mother-in-law to Alona, Michael, and Tomas. She will be dearly missed by her siblings Rose, Martin (Kathleen), Michael (Nan), Cathy, and Tom (Cristina). Loving aunt to Tom, Henry, Hamish, Jack, and Lulu. Funeral at St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 50 Hoskin Avenue (at St. George, adjacent to the Newman Centre) on Friday, June 9th at 10 a.m. A celebration of Mimi’s life will follow at the family home, 9 Ridout Street, Toronto. Friends may visit between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. to remember Mimi. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Dorothy Ley Hospice.

Mimi's warm, rosy smile and dedication to her studies at St. Joe's was an inspiration to me and to many other students. Kathy Steketee, one of Mimi's good friends, told me that Mimi had goals and plans for a fabulous life. She had dreams that came true - a career she was proud of that touched the lives of children, a happy home life and loving children. While definitely cut short I sense that, because of her wise character, Mimi'd agree that quality often makes up in height what it lacks in length.. My sincere condolences to her beautiful family and to her partner.

I have so many great memories of time spent with Mimi when our children were young. She was always hospitable and we had many coffees at the kitchen table discussing our kids, the school and life in general. She often invited us to join her at her parents' swimming pool in the summer, along with other friends and their children. Her sense of humour, her artistic talent and her commitment to family and to whatever she directed her energies stood out. I remember so well her sense of adventure and gusto in planning a canoe trip with Michael, Jane, and me and my 2 kids Jem and Sahra when they were about 7 and 9 up in Temagami. Neither of us were experienced trippers, but we did know how to paddle. A treasured memory of an amazing woman who lived her life with courage and enthusiasm. My condolences to Jane and Anna and to all the rest of the family.
