In Celebration of

Mary Helen Dods (nee Jelly)

June 17, 1935 -  August 14, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Mary Helen Dods on August 14, 2022 at the age of 87. She will be dearly missed by her husband of 66 years, John, her daughter, Anne (Andy), and her grandchildren Ryan (Alex) and Lindsay (Martin). Pre-deceased by her brother Lindsey, she will also be missed by her sisters Lois (Larry), Cathy (John), sisters-in-law Mary and Nancy (Tony), her nieces and nephews and many friends.

Mary was born in Shelbourne, Ontario and spent her early years on the family farm before moving to Orangeville for high school. She graduated from the Atkison School of Nursing of the Toronto Western Hospital in 1955 where she excelled at her studies and made many life-long friends. She returned to school as an adult and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from York University. Mary and John lived in North Bay, Cold Lake, Vancouver and Ottawa before settling in Toronto in 1966.

Mary was an intelligent woman with a quick wit and an impeccable sense of style. She was an avid reader and enjoyed entertaining family and friends, especially at her beloved home on Strath Avenue. Mary was a caring and devoted wife and mother, but her true passion was always for her grandchildren whom she loved without limit.

A funeral will take place at Kingsway Lambton Church on August 24th at 1:30 p.m., with visitation beginning at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of choice.

What a beautiful tribute to a wonderful woman. Mary was always so welcoming to our group of friends in high school, making us all stand a bit taller by imparting her wisdom and life lessons delivered with wit and humour, often through her daughter's pragmatic and joyful approach to life. Mary, you were a big part of my youth and, through Anne, my life. Your enduring relationship with John is a model to all of us on how to love genuinely through thick and thin. However, yours seemed a matchless love. Thinking of John and the family at this difficult time but knowing that your voice lives on in everyone you met. You will be dearly missed. With much love to the family, Laura

A wonderful tribute to an elegant lady. I will miss Aunt Mary so much. My Mom enjoyed the continued friendship over her lifetime especially in the later years and I hope they are having a good laugh over a cup of tea together now. Deepest sympathy to John and Anne and her family who were so dear to Mary xo
