In Celebration of

Mary Duggan-Ashbee

August 31, 1943 -  March 20, 2022

It is with deep sadness we announce that Mary Ashbee passed away at home on March 20th, 2022 at age 78. Mary was the loving wife of John, devoted mother to Clare and her husband Liam, and doting “nannie” to her kindred spirit, her 2-year-old granddaughter, Minty. She is also survived by her brother Willie. Mary spent her final, joy-filled evening playing with her granddaughter, and enjoying dinner with her family. Mary loved long conversations with her friends over multiple cups of tea and truly could make a friend of any stranger. She radiated warmth and always took a keen interest in what was happening in the lives of those she loved. A visitation will be held at Turner and Porter Yorke Chapel on Bloor Street from 4-6pm on Tuesday, April 5th. A funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 3055 Bloor Street West at 11am on April 6th. For those who wish, donations may be made to SickKids.

Dear Mum, I love you so very much and miss you with all my heart. You were the most incredible Nannie to sweet Minty. We promise to speak about you often and share loads of stories with her so she remembers you always and knows how much you loved her. Thank you for everything you did for me over the years and for all the sacrifices you made for me. Rest in peace my pookie little mummy. Our hearts are broken. Love, Clare

My Auntie Mary was always so very engaged with her family’s well-being. She was right there following along with everyone’s journey. She was always checking in to make sure I was happy and healthy. I’ll always remember her love for us. xo

My dearest friend Mary, we have been close friends for decades. We had so much fun together and shared so many of life's experiences, both good and challenging and in between. We travelled together, sought adventures together, danced together, drank tea together and lived together. I will treasure our friendship for the rest of my life. You were such a kind, caring and generous person, both to me as well as to my family and other friends. I love you so much; you will always be with me and close to my heart and Matthew and I will continue to watch over your family. With our heartfelt sorrow to John, Clare, Liam, Minty and family.
