In Celebration of

Mary Claus

October 12, 1926 -  August 4, 2016

Mary Lena (Swystun) Claus
October 12, 1926 - August 4, 2016

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved mom, grandmother and great-grandmother on Thursday August 4, 2016 in her 89th year. Loving wife of the late Walter. Loving mother of Barbara and the late Patricia and their husbands Richard and Maurice. Mary was the best grandma ever to her grandchildren Adam (Simona), Eric (Liv), Daniel (Leah), Natalie (Ben), Vanessa (Chris) and Matt. Mary was the vibrant great-grandmother of Luke, Zachary, Maya, Claire, Bryn, Violet and Emily. She was looking forward to having two more great-grandchildren and a wedding! All the family knows Mary will be there in spirit. Mary leaves behind her loving sisters, Elsie (Bill), Donna (Reg), brother, Tony (Germaine) nieces, nephews and friends. Pre-deceased by her sister, Julia(Wally).

Mary was born and raised on the Swystun farm in Rossdale Manitoba. Mary has told her family countless, entertaining stories about her life on the farm; like about her dog "Charlie", the prairie skies and her cherished schooling at the Rossdale school learning to speak and write English. But despite all the rural living Mary was truly a big city girl and she lived actively in Toronto since 1951. Mary worked and retired from Maytag where she worked many years. Even in her later years Mary had an unbridled energy for life; always wanting to be busy travelling, seeing new events, shopping and playing enthusiastically with her great-grandchildren to the very end. Her mind was sharp and she loved to discuss the current events of the times.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 from 12 p.m. until time of Service in the Chapel at 1 p.m. For those who wish, donation may be made by cheque to The Brain Aneurysm Foundation of Canada (www.bafound.org). On-line condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca

It was our privilege to have met and know Mary and her family. She was always smiling, and had something kind and thoughtful to say to, or about anyone. I remember doing a painting of her beloved Manitoba farm for their anniversary, she was so happy with it, and it gave me great pleasure to do it for them. I still miss her daughter Pat, but know they will have a lovely reunion in heaven.
Unfortunately I will be out of town during the funeral time, but we wish the family well, and I am sending hugs to all.
Much love, Jan and Jim

Missing you terribly mom. Miss the phone calls everyday. Miss running your errands. Really, really miss your visits. You will be missed by all your family and friends. The other day Luke made a song about you and Bryn was pretending to talk on the phone to you. So glad you were able to leave a lasting impression on me, son-in-laws, your grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Happy that you are with Pat and Dad. Please tell them all the wonderful news that is happening to our Neshevich and Rosso families. Hug them for me. Love your daughter, Barb

I am so blessed to have had such a wonderful great aunt! There are so many great memories of Aunty Many visiting my Mom, sister and I on the east coast, and us her in Toronto. I will never forget her smile and contagious laugh. Ben and I are unable to travel to Toronto to attend Aunty Mary's service, but send all our love and support to Barb/Rick, Maurice, Adam/Simon, Nat/Ben, Vanessa/Chris, Eric/Liv, Daniel/Leah, and Matt along with other great aunts/uncles.
Love,
Sacha & Ben
