In Celebration of

Mark Sarsh

December 30, 1947 -  October 10, 2021

We lost our beloved father, grandpa and cherished friend on October 10, 2021 but his energy and spirit will live on. With his beloved wife Monica (d. 2008), they came from London, England to Toronto in 1976. They created Izba Restaurant. Their son, Bart, was born into the family business, working alongside mom and dad, learning about life, its challenges and opportunities. Izba has, and continues to be, a special place where people come together, where memories are shared and new experiences born. Mark found strength, purpose and meaning at Izba. He continued Izba when his beloved wife, Monica, passed away. Mark was blessed with granddaughters Melia and Mia. He loved his daughter-in-law, Milita, and was proud of the life that Milita and Bart created for themselves and the family, always with his love and support along the way. He was our “Grandpa Marco”, who spent his best years with Melia and Mia. He listened to Melia play the piano. He saw in Melia the musical talent of his beloved wife, Monica, and that was everything to him.

Mark is the son of Akbar and Maliheh, and brother of Monir, Mahmoud and Ahmad. The large, extended family including Pejman, Ali and Payman remembers his energy and kindness.

Family, friends and the many people who’s life Mark touched may visit at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W. (at Windermere, east of Jane subway) on Friday, October 15, 2021 from 4 to 7 p.m. Due to the limitations still in place surrounding COVID-19, space is limited, all guests must register - link to be made available below. Our deepest sympathies on your loss. Your dad was an amazing man, caring, funny and hard working. I will always remember as a kid us hanging out at Izba being kids and no matter what we did your dad was always understand and never got upset with us. He will truly be missed.

It was with deep sorrow that I read of Mark's passing. I have known Mark, and his dear wife Monica, since they first opened the iconic Izba Restaurant on The Queensway.
Mark was an incredibly kind and decent person. Totally committed to family and to his community.
The legacy of friendship that he created with patrons over the years is why he will be so missed by everyone.
To Bart, Milita and family please accept my heartfelt condolences. We are all better for having enjoyed your father's grace and hospitality over the decades. He will be missed and remembered by the community.
