In Celebration of

Marie Bernadette Daly

December 11, 1919 -  March 18, 2019

It is with sad yet grateful hearts, we announce the passing of our family matriarch Marie Bernadette Daly (nee Doran) in her 100th year of life on March 18, 2019. Throughout her life Marie showed remarkable intuition, intelligence and wisdom. She was a true mother at heart in all she did. Marie spent her last full day of life celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with family, partying all the way to heaven.

Typical of Marie’s joie de vivre, just this year she enjoyed participating in family gatherings celebrating the arrival of two more great grandbabies, witnessed a great-granddaughter score her first goal at a ringette game and was looking forward to welcoming Little Bear to the family soon. In recent months she warmly welcomed visits from grandchildren and great-grandchildren visiting from far and wide.

She is predeceased by her parents and siblings and her beloved husband Tom, survived by all of her five children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren and partners, almost 11 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her special granddogs.

Marie was still enjoying life in her family home with the help of loving family, extended family, caring neighbours and kind support from her Nucleus Independent Living care workers. She will be missed by all of us as she brought so much joy to many aspects of our lives.

A memorial service celebrating Marie’s wonderful life will take place with a mass at St. Martin of Tours Church https://stmartinoftourschurch.blogspot.com Mississauga at 11 am on Monday, April 15th, followed by a reception in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, we welcome donations in Marie Daly’s name to;
Breast Cancer Society of Canada at https://bcsc.ca
SPCA at http://ontariospca.ca/ways-to-give.htm

It is with sad that we lost an amicable , long time neighbor . We have known each other since we moved in this area in 1982.
Marie had seen almost every members of our family. She used to teach my sons how to cut the grass and how to fix the garage door. When our sons in high school she asked them about their studying. Recently she met our grandchildren. We learned from her a lot of knowledge and the past Canadian history.
We deeply miss Marie and will always remember her loving smile . We pray that she rest in peace and God bless her family.

'Twas two weeks before Christmas. in 1919
The Doran's rejoiced with their new wee colleen.
The stockings were hung in Toronto with care
You were christened Marie, then soon moved from there.

To Montreal you came, to grown up in the city
A sister and playmate for Tom, Peg and Ernie.

Your summers n Stellerton, so close to the sea
Unpasteurized milk, and bovine TB.
A taste of the farm life and tending the lambs
Respect for the bears, picking berries for jams.

Salty adventures with memories to keep
The ocean your playground, putting lobsters to sleep.
And so you grew up, learning left hand from right.
In grade school the nun's then St Leo's in sight.

Then more rapid than eagles, your courtiers they came
'Til your brother's best friend, Tom was his name.
Romance, a wedding, events full of joy
The apartment in Mount Royal, a wee baby boy.

To Springfield in Westmount, there's much to be told
The Park, and the Trains, three more to the fold.
Our home with the Moose, need we say more
Its head was in Gramp's house, the rest was next door.

We packed up and moved west, to Valois we came,
Our own home, wonderful neighbours, we called them by name
The Ellis', Hope's. and the Randall's too,
The Bonser's and Hicks, to name just a few.

And out on the traffic circle, there arose such a clatter
You often came out, to see what was the matter.
With Bob on the chest of the new fallen Paul
Joan thumping big guys, Brian in the thick of it all.
Here Paddy was born, a happy wee elf
We giggles and laughed, in spite of our self.

Each summer to Vermont, our hears filled with glee,
At first sight of the Country Water, alas, your Rousse's Point shopping spree.
The cottage that was ours, it had a green door,
The outhouse and water pump, the trip to Joe's store.

Two weeks at the Country just wasn't enough
So Dad commuted, it must have been tough.
Each Wednesday and weekend, Dad would appear.
Through Customs, with toys for the Kiddies, and two cases of beer.
How you managed through this, it is so hard to tell
All by yourself, two kids in diapers, three more raisin' hell.

I have many memories of the days at Isle La Motte,
Of games that we played, and all that you taught.
Our walks to the shrine, for sunrise Mass
Then row to the point to look for rock bass.
The snack bar and bonfires, then tucked into bed
While visions of sunsets danced in our heads.

Moving westward again, Erindale bound
To the big house on Flynn, with adventure to be found.
Scouting and skiing, Credit River exploring
And hockey practice, at four in the morning.

You always. made Christmas as special as could be
Lights on the railing, gifts piled by the Tree.
The Night Before Christmas, the book by the fire.
Your fashion revolution, in turkey cooking attire.

Our growing up years, testing your rules
Sharing friends and your cars, then leaving for schools.
Through our own ups and downs, we tried to pick up,
Something you showed us, is not to give up.

You have much to be proud, as a Mum and a wife
Of all the years past, your five Miracles of Life.
Our albums are bulging, fond stories to tell
Of seventeen Grand Kids and Grand Dogs as well.

Here we all gather as one large family
Some call you Mum, and some Grannie Ree
Whether gathered around you, or with Tom up above
There's one thing that's constand, your unconditional love

THRU THE EYES OF A DAUGHTER

There is a special lady on this earth
Thru humour and fun she has shown us her worth.

Her message is of love and generousity of spirit
Like an angel from heaven, from her love I do benefit.

Born in 1919 the youngest of four
Her independent nature could not be ignored.

There was much fun and adventure as a child
after hearing of her escapades I think a little wild.

She had a fun character of a dog named Pete
The best family pet, that could not be beat.

There were summers by the sea
Teasing brothers that dared their little Marie.
One day she ended up swimming with a seal
This dare was a very BIG deal!

There summer home was a Maritime farm
My Mum's job was to see that the cows came to no harm.
There were many hilarious stories, lots of memories
The fisherman, lobsters, pesky hens and blueberries.

A truly happy time for a child just to be
Preparing for the future life she would see.

But the shadow of tragedy could not be ignored
Cancer took her mother Lillian to heaven's door.
A motherless child at nine, life is not always fair
My heart broke for my Mum, but I thank God with a prayer
That God kept he safe and her spirit grew confident
Her life continued with friends and much merriment.

Skiing and enjoying the winter fun
or walks on Mount Royal in the summer sun.

This was a generation that knew a Great War
The excitement and horrow of a spy as a visitor.

The love of her life, my Dad was met
Life was good for this romantic duet.

There love was strong their values the same
The shared joys of marriage and children their aim.
There were 5 of us born to my parents
I remember life full of fun and happiness.

There was always time for a game or a hug
Or sometimes a kiss from a hurt from a bug.

I was so thankful my Mum chose at home to stay
The smell of her cookies coming home on a windy day.

Her children all added joy to her life
As teenagers we also added strife!

Bob was her helper, always getting things done for his Mum
Others added drama, at times she's workd on her equilibrium!

I was her first born daughter, and gave her lots of reason for worry
Paul brought her humour, every day a new laugh from her jokester.

Paddy was her baby, who shared her loving nature.
We grew up giving her a great life adventure.

Eventually we all made a life of our own
But Mum remained close, as near as a phone.

There were many a night when she would get a late call
Now that I'm a parent I wonder how she did it all.

Her faith and love was always there when was needed
Her calm sound advice helped me stay level headed.

So now is the time to say how much I care
You have brought me much happiness in a world that we share.

God bless you in heaven still just a prayer away.
I will remember you and miss you every single day.
