Marianne Purves

June 3, 1928 -  June 1, 2018

Passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018 two days before her 90th birthday. She was born in Toronto on June 3, 1928 and was the daughter of the late Emmett James and Mary Maloney O'Neill. Marianne is survived by her sister Joan Murray (the late Ernie Murray) and Paul O'Neill (Linda Little). She was predeceased by her husband Lorne Purves, and her siblings Tom "Windy" O'Neill, Barbara Feola (John), Terry O'Neill, Rita O'Neill Tipping and Maureen O'Neill, and her nephews Kevin and Greg O'Neill. She is survived by 21 nieces and nephews - Tom, Emmett, Connie and Chris O'Neill; Lynn, Maureen, Kate, Paul, Mary Pat (Baldwin), Anne (Irwin) and John Murray; Dan and Mary (Foltz) Tipping; Jim, Sarah (Benitz) and Erin O'Neill; Seanna and Megan O'Neill; Bill, Carolann and Ryan Mahoney - their spouses and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was close with her extended family and had many friends and caring neighbours. Marianne was well loved and will be dearly missed. Marianne enjoyed a long and successful working career in Quebec City and Toronto. After retiring she continued to work during election periods and actively pursued china painting and crocheting. Until this last year when her health started to fail, she was very active. Coming from a large family and belonging to many social groups, Marianne always enjoyed a party and getting together with friends and family. She had been looking forward to spending her 90th birthday with her sister Joan and brother Paul. Family will receive visitors to celebrate and honour Marianne at a visitation at the Turner and Porter Funeral Home Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke on Sunday, June 10, 2018 from 2 – 5 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church, 409 Markland Drive, Etobicoke on Monday, June 11, 2018 at 10 a.m., with interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery to follow. Online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada or to a charity of your choice.
