With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Maria Soranno on Mother’s Day Sunday, May 11, 2025. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her three daughters, Grace (Toby), Nancy (Fonseca) and Carmen. Adored Nonna to Chloe, Madeline, Maya, Marcus and Theo, and mother-in-law to Ophir Toby and Jorge Fonseca. She was predeceased by her husband Nicola Soranno.

Born Maria Sacchetti in Sannicandro, Bari, Italy, in 1944, she moved to Toronto at age 18 by way of Switzerland. She later met the love of her life, Nicola Soranno in Toronto, and they were married in 1973.

Though petite in stature, Maria had a larger-than-life presence. Her gregarious spirit, boundless energy and sense of fun and humour made her the life of the party. She was full of warmth and the most generous soul, whose kindness was felt by her large extended family including seven siblings, dozens of nieces and nephews, and countless friends, neighbours and coworkers. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy and a profound void and will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

Visitation will take place on Monday, May 19 from 4:00-8:00pm at Turner and Porter, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga.

A funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday, May 20 at 11:00am.

The interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, 6933 Tomken Road, Mississauga.
