In Celebration of

Maria Severin

July 29, 1928 -  February 28, 2020

It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved mother, Maria, in her 92nd year on Friday, February 28, 2020, at Mississauga Trillium Hospital. She died peacefully with her family by her side.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Anselmo (2008). Survived by sons Noe (Sara) and Bruno and daughter Emanuela (the late Edmund Halliday, 2011). Proud Nonna to Andrew, Christopher and Stephanie. She will also be missed by her many relatives and friends.

Mom was born in Villa, Treviso, Italy, to parents Virginio and Giovanna Mattarollo. Mom was the youngest of four siblings (Antonio, Eugenio and Gemma). She immigrated to Port Credit (now Mississauga) in 1956 where she met the love of her life, our Dad, Anselmo. They married in 1957, marking their lifelong journey together where they raised their family in their little bungalow on Mona Road. Their home was filled with love and joy and welcomed many family and friends throughout the years. Mom and Dad were proud of the life they built together. They provided us with a strong foundation for how to live our lives. Watching their children and grandchildren grow up was their pride and joy. Shortly before Dad’s passing in 2008, our parents celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Mom was a devout catholic, attending church every Sunday until she was no longer able to do so. She began watching mass on T.V. every day and recited the rosary every night before going to bed. We admired her endless love, strength, compassion, sense of humour and relentless pursuit to ensure everyone left her home happy and with a full stomach!

Family meant everything to Mom, and she loved our family get-togethers. She was an excellent cook and loved making her grandchildren’s favourite dish: lasagna (they referred to it as square pasta). Mom and Dad enjoyed gardening and spent countless hours together in their vegetable and flower gardens. Mom always enjoyed and looked forward to her walks and chats with her close friend and neighbor, Karen, who admired Mom’s strength and courage.

Many thanks to Mom’s primary physician, Dr. Cytowski and the doctors and nurses at Mississauga Trillium Hospital.

Mom, your work here on earth is done. Continue to watch over us like you always have. You will be forever missed but never forgotten. Love you always. Rest in peace.

It is so hard to believe that Zia has passed. It was sudden and for Zia we are happy as well as for all the family. As I have mentioned, it was wonderful that you were all there with her.
Was sorry that we couldn't get to the funeral, but happy to have been able to go to the visitation and give you all a hug. We did watch the live stream which we were so happy to be able to do. Zia looked good and the flowers were beautiful . We know she would be happy and is dancing with Zio and all the family now at peace.
Sending our love ...
Mary, Don and all the family
