In Celebration of

Maria Amelia "Melia" Pinto

February 22, 1943 -  September 30, 2022

Maria Amélia Pinto, 79, of Mississauga, passed away peacefully September 30, 2022, with family by her side.

Maria Amélia was born to the late José Lopes and Virgínia de Matos, February 22, 1943, in Vila Franca de Xira, Portugal. Before immigrating to Canada in 1969 she lived in Cologne, Germany.

In Toronto, she worked in the hospitality industry for many years (in housekeeping). In 1986 she retired to become a homemaker. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed taking care of her family. She was an incredible home chef who loved to share her meals and recipes with family and friends.

In 1963, she met the love of her life, José, and they wed in 1965, having two children, Fernanda and the late Marina. They lived a happy and a blessed life during their fifty-seven years of marriage. She had a passion for travelling (in particular, Cruises). Twenty-nine years of her life were dedicated to the care and wellbeing of her beloved husband, after he sustained a near death work accident that left him with a severe brain injury. She never wavered in her dedication to him and to the family which she deeply loved. She was a doting grandmother to Jason, and a proud mother to both daughters. She spread joy and happiness wherever she went and enjoyed sharing her funny and entertainer side with those she knew and loved. She enjoyed writing and creating limericks. She was loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Family and friends are invited for visitation on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Turner & Porter Funeral Home 'Peel" Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga,.

Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, October 6 at 11 a.m. at Cristo Rei, 3495 Confederation Pkwy, Mississauga.

Dear Fernanda,
I am so sorry to hear of your mum's passing.
I enjoyed all your stories about her energy, her humour and her loving nature. Plus, like you said, she was a great cook. And I for one really enjoyed her orange pound cake and rice pudding. Was the best I'd ever eaten.
My thoughts are with you, your dad, Joe and Jason at this most difficult time.
