In Celebration of

Maria Ivis

June 19, 1935 -  April 19, 2024

Passed away at Trillium Health Centre, Mississauga on Friday, April 19, 2024 at the age of 88. Beloved wife of the late Romano. Loving mother of Ingrid, Doris (Tom), and Frank (Suzanne). Much loved grandmother of Briana, Evan, Conner, and the late Braden, and great grandmother of Oakley.

Maria was born in 1935 in Italy to Ivan and Veronica Bertetti and then immigrated to Toronto as a newlywed in 1960, where she and Romano settled and raised their family.

Maria was a talented seamstress, having made numerous garments for her family over the years, as well as having worked at Lipton’s retail clothing company.

At home, she enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family and friends, often using vegetables from her garden, especially her glorious tomatoes.

Although very independent, she loved nothing more than when her family came to visit and readily enjoyed playing the card game briscola.

Maria loved music – she was a regular concertgoer to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and never passed up an opportunity to dance a waltz.

She will be greatly missed.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held at Our Lady of Peace Church, 3914 Bloor Street West, Toronto, on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. Following a private entombment, the family welcomes friends to visit for light refreshments at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas Street West, from 1 – 2:30 pm. Dear Ingrid, Doris, Frank & Family, We are so sad to hear this news. Your family was on the street before I was even born. What a loss to the street. We will miss seeing your mom always working outside. She took great pride in keeping the property just as nice as when your Dad was alive. We send our thoughts and prayers to all of you.

Dear Ivis Family

Our most sincerest condolences and heartfelt prayers to all of you. Ingrid, Doris, Frank and families, we are incredibly sorry for your loss and still in shock. She missed your dad incredibly and everyday as much as she adored her family she wished Ray was with her enjoying the beautiful family they raised. May peace find all of you knowing they are together hand in hand as they look upon all of you and guide you as the best guardian angels can. She will be greatly missed by everyone she’s met and every heart she’s touched.
Hugs and prayers.

I wish to express my deepest sympathy in this time of deep sorrow. I would like to share the comforting hope the Bible gives that your loved one will live again on a peaceful earth when there will be no more death in John 5:28, 29 and Revelation 21:4.

Dear Ingrid, Doris, Frank and Families, we are thinking of you all and sending our heartfelt condolences at this very difficult time.
Your mom was a very special person, truly a pillar of the Stevenharris Community. I will always remember her fondly and how she was always available with a moments notice to help with any sewing emergency. We will miss seeing her working hard in her garden. May the many memories you have bring you comfort and peace.
Our sincerest condolences,
The Ieraci Family
