In Celebration of

Maria Berezny

June 24, 1926 -  January 19, 2022

Maria left this earth peacefully at the Grenadier surrounded by ones she loved at the age of 95 years.
Loving wife of Mychailo (d.2007) for 56 years, Cherished Mother of Eugene (Victoria), Roman (d.1989) and Irene. Adored Baba of Jennifer and Monica (d. 2013), Precious great grandmother of Alexandra.

Maria and Mychailo immigrated to Canada from England in 1952 because they wanted their twin boys to be born in Canada. As a family they enjoyed beach outings, weekly Sunday drives, park visits, tobogganing, visits with other families and many other activities.

Maria was an amazing cook and baker, always trying new recipes and expanding our tastes and palates!
Maria also sewed a lot of clothes for herself and Irene and was an avid knitter and crocheter and made items for everyone, including blankets for everyone’s beds.

Maria loved to garden, and grew the best vegetables and flowers and enough fruit to give out to everyone (raspberries, pears, apples, gooseberries, red currents).

She loved to play games with her children and later with her grandchildren, especially “Mensch Argere Dich Nicht”(I’m Sorry), and “Schwarze Peter” (Old Maid). But she was also up to learning and playing any new games too like Uno and Pictionary.

Maria and Mychailo did a lot of traveling in their retirement years with just each other (Australia, New Zealand, Finland, China, Germany and Ukraine) but also with their children (Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Italy and Florida / Disneyland).

Maria was an adventurer, up for anything, loved to have fun, and had a wicked sense of humour.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Gone, but never forgotten…..

Maria's family will be holding a private funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto would be appreciated.

Dear Irene and family. May your mother and grandmother rest in peace and may you take strength and comfort in remembering what an amazing lady she was. The stars in the sky are just a little bit brighter now with another angel.

Fondly,
Barton

My heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your mother. Reading about Maria and looking at all the photographs made me see how rich and full her life had been. Full of love, joy, giving and sharing with family and friends. Beautiful memories made.

May you now rest in peace Maria.

My condolences to you Irene and your whole family. Your mother had a peaceful and fruitful life and most importantly, left this world the same way: in peace.

May god rest her soul.
