It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Maria Adriana Camara on April 19, 2025 after a hard-fought battle with cancer, with her loving sons by her side. A beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and aunt, she was devoted to her family. She is survived by her brothers Joaquim, Carlos Alberto, and Luis and loving sons Eddie (Yasmin) and Rui (Tina). She was a doting grandmother to Charlotte, Jack, Evan and Emmett, who all loved her dearly. Maria was also a loving aunt and sister-in-law.
Maria was born on September 15, 1945 in São Miguel, Azores, as the second eldest of five children. Her eldest brother, Manuel, has since passed. Maria married her husband Gil in São Miguel in 1968. There they had two sons, and emigrated as a family to Canada in 1976. She worked hard, alongside her husband, to provide for and raise her family. Towards the end of her career, she retired to look after her husband, who lost his battle to cancer in 2008. She then helped raise her grandchildren, whom she affectionately referred to as her little “turkeys”, and continued to be the loving pillar of the family.
We will sorely miss her kindness, caring, humour, and brutal honesty. Not to mention her wonderful cooking and baking.
Rest in peace, mom.
