In Celebration of

Margaret Joan Taylor (née Krug)

April 21, 1932 -  July 22, 2025

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Margaret Joan Taylor (née Krug) on July 22, 2025, at the age of 93 in Toronto. Joan is predeceased by her husband, Alvin Taylor, and sister, Carol Forde. Survived by her children: Nancy Milstein, Judith Taylor (Robert Rodensky), Paul Taylor (Natalie), Keith Taylor (Ivoneke), and her brother Edwin (Ted) Krug. Loving grandmother of Max Milstein (Ksenia), Amanda Milstein-VanVaerenburgh (Brandon), Melissa and Jacqueline Taylor, Ethan Rodensky, Sonia, Naomi and Matthew Taylor. Great-grandmother to Farin and Ziv Milstein-VanVaerenburgh, Esther and Mariana Milstein. Daughter of late William Peter and Frieda Krug.

Joan was born and grew up in Chesley, a small town in Ontario, where her family had strong ties to the community through the family-owned Krug Brothers Furniture Co. She moved to Toronto to attend an art school and later worked at the Bank of Montreal until her retirement. Together with her husband, Alvin, she raised her family in Streetsville. Upon retirement, they made Kitchener-Waterloo their home.

In Kitchener-Waterloo, Joan was active in church and regularly volunteered for different community events. A lifelong learner, she often attended public lectures offered by the University of Waterloo and she gave back by participating in various research studies run by the University.

Joan shared her husband’s love of travel, from camping and road trips with the kids to flying to far-flung places around the globe. Always up for adventures, her usual response to a travel invitation was "Why not?”. When not travelling, she sang with the United Church choir and kept busy with her various handiwork projects – knitting sweaters, making quilts or doing needlework for family or charity. Her children and grandchildren are the lucky recipients of many examples of her beautiful work, with her trademark “Made with love by Joan” label sewn in. She was generous with her affection, time and cookies! Every visit meant being sent home with a tin (or two) of her homemade cookies. She was immensely proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was happiest when surrounded by them.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Doctors Without Borders or the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.

A celebration of her life will be held at Parkland on Eglinton West (4650 Eglinton Ave W, Toronto) on August 9th at 4:00 p.m.

Joan was a force of nature with an unquenchable spirit. The annual "chili sauce weekends" in August were always the highlight of the summer for me. There was lots of good food, some wine and my onion chopping station on the back porch. My love to you all, I can only begin to imagine how her loss will transform each and all of you.
