Mrs. Hirons will be so missed by me. She was the mother I never had and I had the great fortune of knowing her for most of my life, almost 50 years, starting when she was the 'cool mom' who let us smoke in her living room instead of on the streets.

She was curious about everything including people's lives and why they did what they did. She always had to understand my big WHY I did something. We never ran out of things to talk about and she was full of wisdom, love and determination.

Mrs. Hirons was an inspiration on how to going, to keep fighting for an extraordinary life and never ever give up --her British heritage perhaps, modeled on Churchill or her formitable mother.

Dear Kathryn,

I'm so sorry for your loss. Find peace in knowing that your mother was blessed to have you as a daughter.

Be strong,
