Christine passed away peacefully, in her 105th year, on Sunday September 28th, at Lakeridge Gardens Long-Term Care Home in Ajax. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Gordon in 2003 and her son Donald in 2009. She is survived by her son Jim and his partner, Karen Wade; her daughter and son-in-law Peggy and John Poulter; her daughter-in-law Marilyn Craig; her grandson David Craig; her granddaughter and her husband, Donna and Brandon Gilbert; and her two great-grandchildren, Brody and Chase Gilbert. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Dorothy Craig who was very much a part of Christine’s immediate family. She will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews from both the Craig and Gibbons families.
Christine was born and raised in Meaford, Ontario. She and Gordon, and their three children spent many years in various locales in Northern Ontario, eventually settling in Etobicoke. Christine was an avid bridge player and sports fan, following both the Blue Jays and Hamilton Tiger-Cats right up to the end.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lakeridge Gardens for their committed care over the past three years and also the staff at Viva Pickering Retirement Residence for the prior eight years.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8th at St. Giles Kingsway Presbyterian Church, 15 Lambeth Road, Toronto, Ontario after a private interment. Following the service, the family invites you to join them for a reception at the Canadiana Restaurant, 5230 Dundas Street West, Six Points Plaza, Toronto, Ontario (about a ten-minute drive from the Church). For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Ajax Pickering Hospital Foundation - Lakeridge Gardens Long-Term Care Home (Ajax Pickering Hospital Foundation), or a charity of your choice.
