It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret Capes at Humber River Hospital on Saturday, July 21, 2018. Predeceased, in April of this year by John, her beloved husband of 64 and a half years. She will fondly be remembered by daughter Carolyn Emes (Peter) and their son Jake, son David and his wife Jill and their children Erin and Jason. Margaret Loretta Capes was born in Collingwood, Ontario in 1930 to Margaret Anne Holroyd and Vernon Leslie Holroyd. Although life was difficult during the Great Depression, Margaret grew up a very happy little girl surrounded by friends and many cousins. Margaret’s father worked for The Collingwood Shipyards (C.S.L.) and in 1939 she moved with her family to Midland, Ontario where her father helped open the shipyards. Margaret spent her teenage years happy and busy attending school and working summers at resorts. Margaret graduated from grade 13 as class valedictorian and senior girl and from there attended Peterborough Normal School. After becoming a school teacher, her first teaching position was in Orillia, Ontario. Margaret enjoyed an active social life and kept in touch with many of her friends from her school and teaching days. Over the years she held positions in many areas. She was very active in her church community and was a Sunday school teacher at Kingsway Lambton Church and superintendent of the primary class for 3 years. She was president of the UCW, an actor in Christmas pageants and Kingsway Lambton Players and President of the Kingsway Lambton Bazaar. All those who knew Margaret, take comfort in the knowledge that she is once again with John and that together they will celebrate their 65 wedding anniversary. We encourage all who knew and loved them to raise a glass on August 29 to honour their anniversary. Funeral Service will be held at Kingsway Lambton United Church, 85 The Kingsway, on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 2 p.m with visitation one hour prior.
