After a courageous battle with cancer, Manuel passed away peacefully at Credit Valley Hospital surrounded by family on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the age of 82.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Connie, whose unwavering love and devotion were the foundation of their family. He is affectionately remembered by his three children: Diana (Tony), Anabel (Scott), and David (Arren); and by his two cherished granddaughters, Abbey (Shelomo) and Elizabeth. He also leaves behind extended family and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Manuel was born on the island of São Miguel in the Azores. In his early years, he spent time in São Paulo, Brazil before eventually making his way to Toronto, Canada in 1967 where he settled and built a life filled with purpose, friendship, and family.
Manuel had a long career in construction, earning a reputation for his skill, reliability, and pride in his craft. He helped build several notable structures throughout the community, leaving behind not only solid foundations, but also lasting impressions on those who worked alongside him.
Outside of work, Manuel found joy in tending his garden and his many fruit trees. He had a natural touch with plants and took pride in watching what he nurtured grow and flourish. He also loved sharing a good glass of wine or caipirinha, especially when surrounded by family and friends. Social, warm, and quick to laugh, you were never a stranger for long in his presence. Conversation came easily to him, and his home was often a gathering place.
Above all, Manuel was known for his generous spirit. He was always willing to lend a hand and to offer support where it was needed. His kindness, steady strength, and welcoming smile will be deeply missed.
