It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret "Maggi" Austin-Chiarello, who leaves behind a lasting legacy of warmth, devotion, and friendship.
Born on April 9, 1951, in Corbridge, England, Maggi was the beloved daughter of Arthur and Violet (née Hamilton). From an early age, she was known for her curiosity, sharp wit, and deep sense of care for those around her. In the early 70s, she immigrated to Canada, embracing a new chapter with courage and optimism, and went on to build a full and meaningful life rooted in family, friendships, and community.
Maggi began her professional career at The Chronicle in England and later worked at The Globe and Mail, before retiring after a long and distinguished career with the Bank of Montreal. Her intelligence, strong work ethic, and kindness defined her professional life, and she was deeply respected by colleagues who valued her reliability, generosity, and grace.
Maggi was devoted to her husband, Giuseppe, with whom she shared 46 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Together, they traveled the world, delighting in new cultures and shared experiences. They found joy in discovering life side by side. Their partnership was one of deep affection, mutual respect, and unwavering support.
She was a loving mother to her sons, Adam and Joseph (Evette), and a treasured grandmother to Jade and Luca, who were the lights of her life and brought her immeasurable joy. Maggi took immense pride in her family and found her greatest happiness in time spent together, whether celebrating milestones or sharing everyday moments.
Maggi is survived by her beloved siblings, Alan (Madeline), Kathleen, and Ian (Marie); her cherished nieces Sophie and Victoria, and nephew Andrew; and her great-niece and great-nephews. She will be fondly remembered by her family in Italy and by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Tim.
Above all, Maggi had an extraordinary love for her family and a wide circle of friends who will miss her dearly. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, sense of humour, and the genuine care she showed to everyone she met. Her home and her heart were always open, and her presence made people feel seen, welcomed and valued.
Visitation will be held at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel (2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto) on Thursday, December 18, 2025 from 5-8 p.m.

Maggi's memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know and love her. We will continue to honour her every day - through the love she gave so freely, the traditions she cherished, the laughter she shared, and the countless memories that will forever guide and comfort us.
