Lynn Lawson
December 12, 1934 - May 24, 2012
Our beautiful Mom passed away peacefully on Thursday May 24. She fought this horrible disease bravely for over 3 months and died with grace and dignity in her home, as was her wish. Lynn was born in Alton, Illinois on December 12, 1934, daughter of Clarke and Rhoda Miller. She graduated from Purdue University and was one of the first women to receive a MBA from Harvard where she met our father, Ken Lawson. They resided in Calgary where Lynn had her own TV show “Cooking Magic with Lynn Lawson”, one of the first of its kind. In 1970 our family moved to Toronto. Lynn made many life-long friendships in Calgary and Toronto. She defined herself by the quality of these wonderful relationships which she cherished until her passing. All who knew her described her as elegant, strong, and energetic, embracing life to its fullest. Fifteen years ago our Mother found love again with the extraordinary Jack Phelan – together they shared more than most would ever in a lifetime. Lynn carved out a remarkable career in Real Estate and mentored many agents along the way. Lynn was an avid athlete and excelled at tennis in particular and later discovered a passion for golf. Bridge was always a favourite past time. Her favourite places were Siesta Key, France, Lambton Golf and Country Club, and her beloved home. Lynn is survived by her brothers, Clarke (Mary) Miller, Rich (Pat) Miller, daughters Camille (Nik Pope), Laura (David Turner), Lorraine (Michael Marcus) and Kathie Harkness, Jane McKaig, and Mark Quigley and the entire Phelan family. She loved and was so proud of her grandchildren, Sarah, Matt, and Lisa Quigley, Philip, Carly, and Will Turner, Nathan and Rachel Marcus. As per Lynn’s wishes a private family funeral will be held at Kingsway Lambton United Church and a celebration of her life will be held at Lambton Golf and Country Club on Monday June 4, 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM. 100 Scarlett Road. All are welcome. All who knew Lynn were inspired by her. For those who wish, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
