In Celebration of

Lynda Jeanne Taschereau

October 20, 1957 -  April 4, 2018

It is with much sadness that the family of Lynda Taschereau announce her passing on April 4, 2018 after a short but brave battle with cancer. Born on October 20, 1957 in London, Ontario Lynda spent her early years growing up in Hastings, Ontario on the Trent River. Lynda spoke fondly of her time in Hastings with idyllic summers spent waterskiing, and helping her family run the Riverside Dance Hall. Lynda moved to Toronto and began work at the City of Toronto at a young age. Lynda loved her time working for the City and finished her career as the Executive Director of Strategic and Corporate Policy. Lynda was a true public servant in every sense of the word and was held in high esteem and respected by all her friends and colleagues at the City. Loved and cherished wife and soulmate of Stephen Welowszky. Adored and loving mother of William and Michael (Sarah). Will be greatly missed by her mother Jean and father Hank (deceased 2004) and wonderful sister Cindy (Ken), niece Kaitlin (Andrew) and great niece Elora. Lynda's greatest joy in life were her two sons William and Michael. Nothing made her prouder than to see the intelligent, caring, and thoughtful young men they became. Lynda loved to go travelling and on adventures with her 'boys' – Stephen, William, and Michael. From train trips across Canada, road trips to the East Coast, adventures in the U.K. or weekends in New York it gave her such immense pleasure to spend time with them. Lynda was a special person who lived a rich life and lived in the present. Lynda truly believed that nothing was more important than family and to be caring and loving to each other. Those who were fortunate to have Lynda as a friend know that they were a better person for knowing her. Lynda left us much too soon and will be greatly missed by us all. A Memorial reception to remember Lynda will be held at Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga, on Saturday, April 14th from 1 – 4 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to any charities benefiting women and children.

Lynda was a wonderful person and role model for civil servants. Whenever I needed an example of a person who persevered through hard work and extra education I pointed to her career and character.

My sincere condolences to Lynda's family for your loss. Lynda was a treasured colleague during my years as Lobbyist Registrar for the City. She was one of the main architects of the City's Accountability Framework, of which my office was a part. We sat in many meetings together, building the framework. She took a consistent, steadfast , principled approach, always. She was always supportive, genuine and kind. I will remember her always.

Lynda was a special colleague at the City of Toronto who demonstrated integrity and brought warmth and insight into everything she did. I so enjoyed working with her and valued the personal aspect of our connection. Even though she had retired from her City work we all knew she was somehow there in the background. She will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to all her family and close friends.
