It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, daughter, and sister, Lucia Maria Borges Medeiros Quieto, who passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025.
Lucia was born in Fajã de Baixo, São Miguel, Açores, Portugal, on September 15, 1965. She immigrated to Toronto, Ontario, Canada on February 16, 1984. In 1985, she began working as a machine operator at a uniform clothing factory, where she helped make uniforms with dedication and care.
Lucia built a beautiful life here with her husband, Antonio Borges Quieto. Together, they raised two children, Brian De Medeiros Quieto and Stephanie Medeiros Quieto, who were the light of her life.
Lucia was the loving daughter of Maria and Fernando Medeiros and a cherished sister to Luis Medeiros. She was also a proud aunt to her niece Jessie Medeiros and nephew Diego Medeiros.
After her husband suffered a serious work-related injury in 2001, Lucia became his devoted caregiver, always putting his needs first with strength and love.
Lucia was well known for her deep love of nature, especially her vibrant garden filled with beautiful flowers and plants she nurtured with pride. Gardening was one of her greatest joys, and she found peace and happiness caring for each plant with patience and love.
She also had a lifelong love for animals. Over the years, she cared for many birds and had a special bond with all her pets. One of her most memorable was a lovebird she hand-fed and raised from a baby, giving it twelve wonderful years of life. She adopted her first dog, Buddy, in 2015. In 2017, during a visit to Portugal, she rescued her beloved cat, Pitinha, from her childhood street. Pitinha passed away just one month before Lucia. In 2019, she adopted her second dog, Boo Boo, from a local shelter in Portugal. Each of her pets held a special place in her heart, and she gave them all a life full of love and comfort. Whether it was a lost dog, cat, or an injured bird, Lucia never hesitated to step in and help.
Lucia lived with chronic pain from fibromyalgia and suffered every single day, but she never let it stop her from doing what she loved most. She continued to garden, go on walks and hikes, enjoy the outdoors, and most importantly, spend time with her loving family and friends. Her strength and determination were nothing short of inspiring.
She also had a deep love for music. Whether at home on her laptop or listening to the radio, or in the car during a peaceful drive, music always brought her joy and comfort. It was a part of her daily life and a reminder of the simple moments she treasured.
Lucia loved warm weather and often went on walks, either with her husband or with her dogs around the neighborhood. She had a passion for cooking and baking, always seeking out healthy recipes to share with her family. She took great pride in keeping a clean, welcoming home and always carried herself with grace, care, and beauty.
Lucia was the heart of her family, kind, generous, compassionate, and always putting others before herself. Her warmth, strength, and unforgettable laugh touched everyone who knew her. She brought joy wherever she went and was truly an inspiration.
Lucia will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Antonio; her children, Brian and Stephanie; her parents, Maria and Fernando; her brother, Luis; and her niece and nephew, Jessie and Diego Medeiros. She also leaves behind an extended family and dear friends who will miss her dearly.
Her memory will live on in all of us. We will never forget her love, her strength, and the light she brought into our lives.
We love you forever, Lucia. We love you, Mommy
