In Celebration of

Linda Edey (nee McNeil)

February 28, 1944 -  June 28, 2017

A light has gone out in our world with the passing of Linda Edey. Peacefully, at St. Joseph’s Hospital on June 28, 2017 with her family by her side. Cherished wife and best friend of the late Ed (2015). Loving and adoring mother of Colin McClintock (Sandra) and Erin Galante (Tony). Step-mother of Gary (Maureen), Todd (Shelley), and Glen (Julia). Loving Grandma of Lauren, Regan, and Taryn; and of Melissa (Michael), Michelle, Ryan (Katherine), Christopher, Zachry, and Douglas; and Great–Grandmother to Hailey and Quinn. Sister of Forbes McNeil (Debbi). Linda will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Linda was a dedicated and gifted kindergarten teacher with the TDSB for 35 years. There, she took great joy in being a part of the flourishing lives of many young children, and considered herself privileged to work every day loving what she did. Of the few things that surpassed her passion for teaching was the immense happiness she felt in sharing her love and caring with family and close friends. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W, Etobicoke (between Kipling and Islington Aves.) on Saturday July 8, 2017, from 2 - 4 p.m. A private family service will be held at another time. If desired, donations in memory of Linda may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made using this website.

Linda,

I want you to know what a key role you have played in my life. I know I told you that you truly were a second mom to me in so many ways and I'm going to miss your friendship so much. You have been taken far too soon from us and you are going to be missed by so many people. I love you and will miss you so much. I hope you and Ed have reunited and will be together now for eternity.

I love you,
Donna

We all knew Linda to be a loving, devoted teacher who earned the title "Teacher of the Year" at one point, sponsored by the parents in the community in which she taught. At one time, she documented a personal video for each child of his/her kindergarten year. In those days, she used a heavy movie camera but it produced an amazing keepsake, still enjoyed by the families to-day. She rose very, very early every morning, preparing the upcoming day with her students. She willingly spent her own money on books and the latest teaching aids available at that time.
Her love of family and close friends knew no bounds. We loved, laughed and sometimes, cried together. Of all life's gifts, our friendship, love and respect for each other was the greatest. I'll miss those lovely, long Sunday afternoon telephone visits.
We said our last good-byes two days before leaving us for the last time.

It's very rare to have a Linda in one's life!
As a recipient in an extraordinary shared relationship, how privileged and grateful I feel, and forever will remain, indebted to my very dear friend. Linda's life, living and nurturing gifts deeply touched so many of all ages. A beautiful person, inside and out, she made those around her feel unique, important and special.
Filling family, friends, and each encountered child with love and joy, cherished memories of Linda will be an enduring and treasured legacy to me.
With love always, Sheila
