MARGARET ELIZABETH “Libby” ADAMS (nee BRAY)
1932 -2024
Libby passed away peacefully in palliative care at Collingwood General & Marine Hospital in her 92nd year after a series of health challenges on April 26th, 2024.
Born in Hamilton on August 1, 1932, to George Sydney and Jean (nee Russell) Bray, she was the eldest of four siblings. Predeceased by her beloved brother, Russ (Anne) she leaves her dear sisters, Martha (Ron) and Helen (Don).
Libby and Earl were married on September 26, 1959 and together they raised three children, Susan (Martin), David (Sarah) and Jane (Mike). Always there for her children, friends, family and neighbors, she was also a constant support to Earl until his passing in 2005. In addition to her children, Libby (“Nana”) is lovingly remembered by her eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two step-granddaughters and their five children. She was a beloved cousin to her many Russell kin and an adored aunt to her many nieces and nephews and their children.
Libby trained as a Dental Nurse at U of T in the early 50’s and enjoyed that career until she started her family. While devoted to her family, when Earl retired and her children were all launched, Libby returned to work, spending many gratifying years on the staff of the Ontario Funeral Services Association. Renowned for her baking talents, Libby was also extensively involved in her church and her community. She had many active circles of friends, was an avid knitter, enjoyed badminton, walks, reading her Toronto Star, and volunteering. Besides her church, Heart and Stroke and Montgomery’s Inn were two of her favourite causes and occupied many happy hours.
After a wonderful childhood spent in Lawrence Park, over fifty years on Strath Avenue, and countless happy memories made at “The Farm” in Meaford, Libby’s journey will end beside Earl at the Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford.
Visitation will be held in Toronto at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West on Monday, April 29 from 2PM - 4PM and 6PM - 8PM. The funeral service will take place at Kingsway-Lambton United Church, on Tuesday, April 30 at 1:00 pm. A reception will be held following the service. Interment for family members will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford on Wednesday afternoon.
With heartfelt gratitude, the family wishes to thank the team in the Surgical Unit of Collingwood General & Marine Hospital under Drs. Ceasar and Crocker for their wonderful, compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to this hospital, or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, or Kingsway-Lambton United Church. Never gone – always remembered.
