Leslie (Les) Raymond Webb
January 31, 1922 - March 19, 2022

Leslie passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre in Toronto on March 19, 2022 with family at his side. He was in his 101st year.

Leslie was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Alice (Betty) in 1997, his parents George and Ann of Ottawa and brothers Sydney, Stanley and Leonard. He was a loving father to Linda and father-in-law to Rod Sowerby of Oakville. He was also “grandpa” to a host of four legged family members.

Leslie proudly served in WW2 as a staff sergeant in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was honoured with the Commander-in-Chiefs Certificate for good service from Field Marshall Montgomery. In 2016 he was awarded the rank of Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour - the highest national order of France.

Leslie worked as an advertising manager at Purolator for most of his working life. He spoke fondly of his years growing up in the Glebe district of Ottawa and in 1939 he was the city’s junior tennis champion - his memorabilia has been donated to the Ottawa Tennis and Lawn Bowling Club.

Leslie was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs. He looked forward to visits made to the Veterans Centre by both members of the Toronto Maple Leafs alumni and current team players. It was an honour that he was chosen in 2019 to represent the Veterans from Sunnybrook at centre ice when the Toronto Maple Leafs recognized Veterans on Remembrance Day. He was humbled to receive a video greeting from Darryl Sittler in honour of his 100th birthday.

We would like to thank the staff at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre for their exemplary care the last five years and it was there that Dad developed a love for bingo.

A graveside service will be held at St. George’s-on-the-Hill in Etobicoke, later this year as well as a celebration of life for family and friends.
