In Celebration of

Lawrence Patrick Donegan

May 9, 1985 -  April 22, 2023

With deep sadness and sorrow, we announce the death of our precious son Lawrence Donegan. He is survived by his loving parents Olivia Rehmer and James Donegan, his siblings Hannah (Jocelyn), Phillip (Myla), Amalia, Caroline, and his new nephew Oscar. He is predeceased by his nephew Beanie. He also leaves behind his large, heartbroken family of aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him dearly. His many friends are, no doubt, mourning with his family.

Lawrence was a student of philosophy studying at McGill University, the University of Toronto, and Memorial University. His quest for a doctorate was increasingly deferred as he battled his mental health disease. Lawrence was a resident of Montreal; an accomplished runner, he enjoyed running the trails on Mont Royale. He loved poetry, chess, hiking, birds, a game of shinny and St Patrick’s Basilica, where he often found refuge. He paddled numerous lakes and rivers through the back country of Ontario with friends, family and occasionally on his own. He loved the outdoors.

For the last nineteen years Lawrence’s family watched, often helplessly, as the slow, painful effects of mental illness gradually overwhelmed him. Now, we trust, he rests in heavenly peace.

There will be a visitation from 2pm – 5pm and 6pm – 9pm on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Turner & Porter “Yorke” Chapel, 2357 Bloor St W, Toronto. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday June 12, 2023, at 11am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 1701 Bloor Street W, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Lawrence’s memory to Friends of Temagami, Amnesty International or St. Patrick’s Basilica in Montreal.
