Passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the age of 97. She will be lovingly remembered by her niece Carolyn (Peter) & their children Stephanie (Guillaume) and Michael, nephew Richard, and cousin Dr. Mary Gwizdal. Predeceased by her younger sister Stella in 2019 and brother-in-law Michael in 2007.
Learning to sew in her youth eventually led to a lifetime career as a highly skilled seamstress. Enrolling in night school classes perfected her craft and she worked in Toronto’s downtown garment district until her retirement. At home, her sewing room held a rainbow of fabrics, threads, buttons and pattern books which surrounded her antique sewing machine. She designed opulent wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses with very intricate detail, the end result of which could proudly be displayed on the cover of an haute couture magazine.
Laura had a passion for painting, reading romance novels and the weekend newspaper to keep up with current events. She was a crossword puzzle enthusiast and never missed reading the horoscope column which always amused her.
A private family service was held at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel.
The family would especially like to thank the dedicated staff at Kipling Acres Long Term Care Home for their kindness and compassionate care.
Thank you for the wonderful memories Ciocia Laura. You are in our hearts forever. We love you.
