In Celebration of
Laimute Elena Gudinskas
April 21, 1928 -
January 29, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laimute Gudinskas on Sunday, January 29, 2023 in her 94th year at Toronto Western Hospital. Loving mother to her daughter, Ruta Pace. Devoted grandmother to Aleksa, Janina and Stasys and great grandmother to Ava and Lilliana. Predeceased by her husband Pranas, son Arvydas, parents and brother Vytautas Vilimaitis. Laimute is survived by her sister-in- law Elena Gudinskas, many nieces & nephews & extended family in Canada and Lithuania.
Born on April 21, 1928 in Kaunas, Lithuania, Laimute came to Canada after the war in 1951 with her mother and settled in Hamilton, Ontario. Laimute loved to help people and enrolled in nursing school in her new country. She spent 35 dedicated years at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, caring for those in need. She was a great supporter of local charities & foundations. Laimute took pride in her home spending countless hours in her garden, making home improvements & commiserating with her neighbours on Rambo Cres. Laimute’s other passion was sewing. She could turn a bolt of fabric into a fashion forward creation for her daughter and granddaughters. When she wasn’t sewing, Laimute could be seen riding her bicycle or walking from one end of Burlington to the other.
Heartfelt thanks is given to the wonderful care team at Labdara Lithuanian Nursing home where Laimute resided for the last three years and to her niece, Rasa Syvokas, who was a frequent visitor.
Visitation will be held at Church of the Resurrection, 1 Resurrection Rd., Toronto, on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass, which will be held at 11 a.m. Interment at St. John’s Lithuanian Cemetery, 2185 Stavebank Rd., Mississauga. Lunch will follow at the same address. For those who wish, donations may be made to Labdara Lithuanian Nursing Home, or The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
