In Celebration of

Kresimir Zigrovic

February 12, 1941 -  January 4, 2018

Passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 4, 2018 in his 77th year. Beloved husband of Dubravka. Loving father of Michele Žigrović -Lasić (George) and Richard (Nancy). Proud grandfather of Maks, Zachary and Amelia.

Krešimir Žigrović was born February 12, 1941 to Blazenka and Vladimir Žigrović in Zagreb, Croatia. He enjoyed a happy childhood filled with a loving family, friends, pets, motorcycles, and many outdoor activities, which cultivated a love of nature in the young Kres. During his later teen years, he served his mandatory military service in the army. He then met a beautiful young woman from Zagreb with an incredible zest for life and soon afterwards, he and Dubravka were married in 1967.

The young couple immigrated to Canada and soon they welcomed their first child, a beautiful baby girl, Michele into their lives in 1969. Four years later, in 1973, they completed their ‘million dollar family’ as they welcomed their beautiful son, Richard, into their lives. The Žigrović family lived in many places throughout the Greater Toronto Area, including Burlington, Mississauga, King City and the City of Toronto.

Family life in the Žigrović household was filled with much happiness, laughter and adventure. They all enjoyed skiing in the Caledon hills where Kres served as a ski patroller and where his children and grandchildren now avidly ski. They loved exploring the sparkling waters of Georgian Bay on their sailboat, Miranda. Kres also loved the game of tennis, both as a player and as a spectator, as do now his grandchildren. They always enjoyed sharing their home with many of God’s creatures, including Puffy, Ringo, Bingo, Ziggy, Spike, Bonzo, Lola...and a couple of chickens. The Žigrović family in Canada has always maintained exceptionally close ties with their families back in Croatia and Michele and Rick enjoyed many incredible summers on the Adriatic with their Baka, aunt, uncle and cousins. All of these are memories that will forever live on in the hearts of Kres’ family.

Kres enjoyed a very fulfilling working life, serving as an engineer for several engineering and construction companies across the GTA and then with the Construction Safety Association of Ontario prior to his highly-deserved retirement.

During his retirement, Kres fulfilled his life-long dream of sailing his beautiful Hans Christian sailboat, Indian Summer, throughout the Caribbean and has always fostered a love for the islands.

Kres will always be lovingly remembered as a gentleman, with an infectious laugh and often mischievous smile. He was an incredibly proud, charming man with a booming voice and a warm, sincere hug or handshake for all he met. He was intensely proud of his two children, Michele, a Doctor of Chiropractic, and Richard, a Portfolio Manager. And his legacy will continue to live on in the lives of his grandchildren, Zachary, Maks and Amelia - the incredible amount of love he felt for them was so clear, and they each loved every moment they had with their Deda.

May you rest in peace, our beloved Krešo/Tata/Deda. You will forever live on in our hearts.

It is with heavy hearts that we received news of Kreso’s passing. He was a spirited, smart and joyful soul to be around; always with an infectious smile. The help, friendship and guidance that Kreso, along with his loving wife and family, showed us in our first years in Canada will always be cherished and remembered. Our memories of sailing, skiing and spending time together are fondly remembered and reminisced about. We will miss him but now he rests in peace.
