In Celebration of

Kamal Akbarali

Kamal Akbarali

May 29, 1937 - December 15, 2017

Kamal was born in Lahore, Pakistan as the youngest of the eight children of Sheikh Akbar Ali, a respected lawyer, and his beloved wife Nur Jehan. He lost his parents, when he was in his teens. He was looked after by his loving older siblings, who have pre-deceased him.

In 1965 Kamal arrived in Toronto. He began a successful career in finance with Ford Credit. He immersed himself into Canadian society and became involved in community issues and politics at all levels. In 1985 he was appointed as the Citizenship Court Judge for Peel Region, a position that suited him well due to his outgoing personality and his desire to help and mentor people, especially new immigrants. After retirement, he worked a few years as a part-time Parole Board member, another challenge he enjoyed.

Kamal will be dearly missed by Tanja (nee Koskinen), his life partner of the past fifty years, his loving daughters Jasmine (Alan) and Petrina (Phil Taylor) of whom he was very proud, and his adored and adoring grandchildren Bianca, Isabella, Maija, Eeva, Lukas, Brooke and Leila. His loss is also deeply felt by his dear nephews and their families in the GTA as well as his extended family and friends in Canada, Pakistan, Finland and England, who were all close to his heart.

A private funeral and Quran Khawani and Dua have taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 28th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at St. George's Golf and Country Club, 1668 Islington Ave., Etobicoke.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Trillium Health Partners or UNHCR (United Nations Refugee Agency) for Rohingya refugees would be appreciated.

Grandpa meant so much to all of us. I've learned so much from him and miss him a lot, but he will live forever in our hearts. We have gained a guardian angel. ❤
