In Celebration of

Julian Ciupak

April 9, 1935 -  August 28, 2022

It is with great love and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing at home of Julian Ciupak on Sunday August 28, 2022 at the age of 87. For 20 years Julian bravely fought the ravages of throat and lung cancer and a paralyzing stroke.

Julian was predeceased by his parents Agnes and Michael, brother Frank, his son Mark, and in Siberia, a sister and twin siblings.

Born in Bortkow Poland, Julian and his family endured many hardships and long journeys during WWII before reaching Canada. They first settled in Rose Valley SK, then Val d’Or Quebec and finally Toronto.

On graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto, he achieved his Chartered Professional Accountant designation and began his career at Touche, Ross, Bailey and Smart Chartered Accountants, now Deloitte. He then became Vice President, Treasurer at Kenscott Ltd. He ended his financial career as President and CEO of St Stanislaus-St Casimir’s Polish Parishes Credit Union Ltd.

He loved gardening, music and reading, and spending time at his cottage in Kaszuby (Barry’s Bay). He enjoyed sailing with his friend Brian Toney on Lake Ontario and on his “ugly duckling” on Wadsworth Lake, as well as flying a Cessna 150 with Bud Morrison. He was a wonderful dancer, enjoying events at the Polish Students’ Club and the Engineer and Credit Union Balls.

Julian was respected for his humble intelligence, gentle patience, kind compassion and quiet determination in meeting life’s challenges.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan, son Michael (Karen), daughter Lynn (Gerard), seven grandchildren: Shaelynn, James, Ryan, Malcolm, Aidan, Alana and Caitlyn; nephews Ted (Diane) and Richard (Lisa) Ciupak, and Andrew Bednarz (Sue), nieces Diane Huzcek (Peter) and Karen Shatford (Wade) and their families.

Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Frances Tung, Jam Yang and Hillary as well as staff at Toronto General Hospital and The Western Hospital, for exceptional care.

WE HAD MANY LAUGHS OVER THE YEARS, QUITE OFTEN WHILE HE HAD A RYE AND GINGER. WE USED TO TRAVEL ON BUSINESS TO SARNIA ON BUSINESS. HE WAS A CAPABLE AND LIKEABLE PERSON AND MARRIED A REAL CHARMER JOAN. AGAIN VERY SORRY FOR THE LOSS.

Our deepest condolences Joan, MichaeI, Lynn and families. I fondly remember Pan Julian as a quiet gentleman with a great sense of humor. His warm smile greeting us at the cottage. As things progressed with his health, he maintained his warm essence with his eyes and smile. We welcomed us all always as family and nothing less. He will be missed greatly by all whom had the wonderful opportunity to know him.

Our thoughts and prayers with you all.

My deepest sympathies to Joan, Lynn, Michael and families.

I'll always remember Pan Julian on the beach at your cottage on Wadsworth Lake and how content he was. I'm sure his kind spirit will always remain there and in your hearts.
