Jozsef Pusuma, born February 16, 1971, in Pa’szto, Hungary. Loving husband of Timea Daroczi and devoted father to Lulu Pusuma, passed away on June 13, 2025, in Toronto.
Born to Jozsef Berki and Katalin Bango (deceased), Jozsef, was a proud member of the Roma community. In 2009, after enduring threats and violence targeting Roma in Hungary, Jozsef and his family made the difficult decision to seek safety in Canada. Their story gained significant attention in the press after they lost their refugee claim and were given sanctuary in a church to avoid deportation. Eventually they were forced to return to Hungary but were granted special permission to return, and permanent residence in 2015. Since that time, Jozsef worked hard for his family to build a good life in Toronto. He is gone too soon.
Jozsef will be remembered for his generous spirit, his humour, his guitar playing, and his cooking. He leaves behind a beautiful wife and daughter in Toronto and a large family in Hungary, plus many friends in both countries. Jozsef will be extremely missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 10:30- 11 a.m., at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto.
A Chapel Service will follow at 11:00 a.m., Father John Costello presiding.
