In Celebration of

Joyce Agnes Pinto Lobo

January 5, 1931 -  September 23, 2024

Joyce Agnes Pinto Lobo, wife of the late Joseph Anthony Pinto Lobo, passed peacefully, after a lengthy illness, on September 23, 2024, in her care home surrounded by family. Known for her energy and indomitability, she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Joyce was the daughter of Pascal and Mary (Thakkar) Peterson, both deceased, of Howrah and Lucknow, India. Her family asks that she be remembered for all she brought to so many as a teacher (St. Agnes School, Lucknow; St. Patrick’s School, Asansol; and St. Xavier’s School, Kolkata), as an Ontario government administrator and as a parent, a grand/great-grandparent, a relative, friend and acquaintance throughout her rich 93 years of life.

She is survived by her children, Mary Ann Samuels, Bernadette Dickson (Bruce), Andre Pinto Lobo (Catherine) and Carlos Pinto Lobo; her brother, Maurice Peterson (Mary) and her brother Patrick; her grandchildren, Wayne Samuels, Kristen Davies (Cameron, deceased), Matthew Samuels (Kate Shearer), Stephan Dickson, Nicole Pinto Lobo, Jeffrey Pinto Lobo, Alexander Pinto Lobo (Aastha Shetty) and Zachary Pinto Lobo; as well as her great grandchildren, Leighton Davies, Lukas Samuels and Emerson Davies.

She passed predeceased, also, by her her siblings, Sybil Peterson, Rita Romauld and Reginald Peterson (Yvonne); and by her brother-in-law, Carlos L. Pinto Lobo (Sofia, deceased).

Among her favourite activities and accomplishments were volunteering (as a visiting eucharistic minister and an aide at both Credit Valley and Mississauga Hospitals), world travel, knitting, crochet, bridge, euchre, mahjong, Sudoku and, of course, line dancing. In Canada, she was, successively an active member of several Mississauga-based Roman Catholic parishes (St. Patrick’s, St. Francis of Assisi, Sts Peter & Paul and Holy Redeemer) where her great devotions to the Infant Jesus and to Our Lady of Perpetual Help were lovingly on display.

Special thanks go to the staff of the Trafalgar Wing of The Villages of Erin Meadows, Mississauga and to her devoted PSWs.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter "Peel" Chapel, 2180 Hurontario, Mississauga (HWY 10 N. of QEW), on Monday, September 30, 2024 from 4-8 PM.
Funeral Mass in her memory will be held at Merciful Redeemer Parish, 2775 Erin Centre Blvd., Mississauga, on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 10 AM. So sorry to hear about Joyce's passing. She is finally where she wanted to be. Hoping you find peace knowing that she is smiling down at you all. I will always remember Mary Ann's tales about her upbringing in India and Joyce's military tactics :) Joyce will be fondly remembered as a vibrant volunteer in the Outpatient department at Mississauga Hospital. Sending love to you all.

There was so much joy, laughter and delight that "Aunty" Joyce brought to every gathering, that her death will be a huge loss to all those who knew her. She will be remembered for her love of life and her ability to put people at ease even if she met them for the first time. She was an inspiration and showed us how to make every moment of life count. She will be greatly missed by her immediate family and her family of friends. It is more than likely that Heaven's brightest celestial star will be named for her! May God grant her eternal peace.
