Josip Kivać, 78, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025 at his home in Mississauga, surrounded by family. Born the youngest of six children in Ludbreg, Croatia on April 13, 1947 to Antun and Antonija Kivać, Josip is predeceased by brothers Franjo, Marko, sister Marica, and survived by his sisters’ Đurđa and Rozika. Loving father to Roman (Melissa Haniff) and Sanja (Alexander McFarlane), and grandfather to Tristan (Natalie), Samantha, Jocelyn, and Fraser; Josip was predeceased by his wife Đurđica (née Jalšić) and his second wife Vesna (née Horvat).
Josip worked for 40 years as a flour miller while balancing his own business creating beautiful landscapes throughout the city. Remarkably creative and innovative, there was no problem that he could not devise a solution to.
Despite his busy life, he always prioritized his family. Known by all to be hard working, dedicated to his family, and tenacious, Josip will always be remembered for Friday dinners at Deda’s, birthday celebrations at the Mandarin, and spending time up north with his children and grandchildren, often roasting a pig, and always sharing his culture and his strong family values with those people who mattered most to him.
