Joe loved being surrounded by his extraordinarily big family and had many more cousins, great-nieces and nephews.

Joe also had a 2nd family -- his friends "the boyz". Started as the "Redbud Gang", extending to the "Agincourt Gang" -- needless to say, he talked endlessly, sharing fond memories of the good times (and I'm sure a bit trouble too) and jokes that he enjoyed growing up with you all. I know he loved EACH and EVERY one of you. Thank you for being there for our Brother.

He had this glorious passion and love for music, it runs in his veins. You can always catch him mixing songs (scratching) in the basement. He was the DJ extraordinaire, Joe Marella, at some of the most famous nightclubs in Toronto -- Still Life, Guverment and Fluid to name a few. Joe was recognized for his rhythmic turntable talents and pulled into the Toronto club scene just as it exploded in the 80’s. Music was embedded in his blood as this was a generational love; we had heard countless stories about Joe’s grandfather Aja, who also shared this passion for music and loved to play the drums.

Joe had left his indelible mark on the DJ music scene from Toronto to Montreal to Vancouver. But his mastermind didn’t end there. Joe also shined with the many graphic arts and digital designs he masterfully created – his creative genius was in full display on promotional paraphernalia across the ‘6’ and most notably extended to the many videos he created starring Gabby and Alley.

He also not-so-secretly shared another love of mixing -- any fruit mixed with salt, lime and pepper -- green mangoes, golden apples, tamarind, cucumbers... He loved his Guyanese food I would say especially, chow mein but every West-indian curry dish came a close second!

Joe’s world was surrounded by Gabby and Alley! He was a proud dad and acknowledged their accomplishments to anyone who listened, from ballet to makeup to honor roll to boyfriends – he captured it all and shared it with us through the many videos and pictures showing off his beautiful, talented daughters. Gabby and Alley, it is through you that his legacy will live on.

“They say there is a reason. They say that time will heal, but neither time or reason will change the way we feel”… those who loved him -- LOVED him. Joe left this world a better place with his presence, his passion and his genius.

Joey, may you always walk in sunshine, for the happiness you gave us. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone. A part of us went with you - The day God called you home. The Lord be with you and may you rest in peace.

Till we meet again, my dear brother…
