In Celebration of

Joseph Donald Trdak

February 22, 1944 -  January 20, 2017

Peacefully, on Friday, January 20, 2016, at the Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga,at the age of 72. Beloved partner of Jane Greener. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his family, many godchildren, extended family in Canada and Croatia, friends and business colleagues at the Hudson Bay Company and Simpsons as well in the horse breeding and racing communities in Canada and the United States.
Joe was born in Mississauga and educated at Michael Power High School. He graduated from the University of Ottawa, St. Patrick’s College. Joe joined the Hudson Bay Company immediately upon graduation and had a distinguished executive career with them and Simpsons before retiring from Simpsons as Vice President, Retail Sales.
Upon retirement from Simpsons, Joe immediately put his immense retail experience, and his boundless enthusiasm and energy into running his family business, Trdak’s Western and Work Wear. This business was one of the oldest family owned and operated businesses in Mississauga, and Joe took great pride in its ongoing success.
Although the business was important to Joe, his heart was at Meadowridge Farms, the horse farm in Flamborough, where Joe and his partner Jane raised and trained thoroughbreds. Meadowridge was the site of many wonderful times where Joe, while mucking out a stall, feeding the horses or sitting at the head of the table, sipping a good scotch, passed on his views on the world – its problems and how they could be fixed. Joe will be missed.
Particular thanks are expressed to the medical staff at the Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga who provided care and consideration to Joe.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter “Peel” Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy 10 N. of QEW) on Sunday from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 2340 Hurontario St., on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. Interment Mount Peace Cemetery. If desired, remembrances may be made to the Trillium Health Partners- Oncology Department. Online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca.

I remember working for Joe at the Eglinton Sq Bay store way back in the 70's. when I was young and just starting. He taught us that you could sell anything if it was presented right and we provided good customer service. He was so right. Yes, he was a little rough around the edges and very opinionated but he really cared about the company and the people in it. Joe did good things at HBC and the company was better for his ideas.
Rest in peace Joe.

It has been my pleasure to know Joe and Jane from Flamboro Downs. He enjoyed Sundays there for Thoroughbred racing, he had a table of cohorts who gathered each week. Joe was a GENTLEMAN, he was very kind, knowledgeable, and generous and will be missed by all his Flamy friends
