It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of José Luis Gonçalves Afonso on Monday, November 29, 2021 at Trillium Hospital at the age of 90.

A beloved husband to Fernanda, adored father to Luis (Alberta), Paulo (Karen) and Jaqueline, and cherished grandfather to Adriano, Salina, Anna and Olivia. He was loved by his nieces and nephews, and extended family in Canada and Portugal.

José was a long-time retired member of Liuna Local 183, having worked in construction for more than 20 years. After serving in the Portuguese military in his early 20's, José immigrated to Canada in 1957. He has worked in various parts of Ontario and Quebec as a farmhand, lumberjack, miner and construction worker. José was known for his generosity, sense of humour, his greenthumb skills and his talent for making smooth red wine.
