In Celebration of

Bill Jones

July 8, 1940 -  January 4, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Bill Jones at his home on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at the age of 82. Predeceased (2020) by his loving wife of 42 years – Wanda, his brother Bobby and parents Fred and Hazel Jones
Bill was a successful and respected businessman in automotive sales in Toronto and part owner of High Class Car Wash in Oakville. He was an avid golfer and long time member of the Islington Golf and Country Club where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends, members and staff. He was an organizer and arranged numerous golf junkets to Doral for his golfing friends.
Upon retirement, Bill and Wanda enjoyed travelling and spending time together on many cruises and numerous winter trips to Florida and Mexico to visit close friends.
Bill was a gregarious person – enjoyed good food, fine wine, good music and good company. He also was a classy dresser. He will be remembered as a kind and caring individual who expressed genuine friendship to those around him and who he held close – you know who you are and you reciprocated that friendship. Family was important to Bill and he took great care to be part of their lives.
Left to mourn are: Bill’s Sister Patty Lynn Vassos, Sisters-in-law Bea Wolnik (Mark), Helen Stodulski (Ed), Stella Malec (Ed). Brother–in-law Ted Wojas (Mary). Nephews and Nieces - Chris Wolnik (Anne), Dr. Monica Wolnik (Gene Hettinga), Ed Stodulski (Janeen) , Steven Stodulski (Lisa), Dr. Carolyn Malec (Chris Knaggs), Ryan Malec (Dr. Kristin Armstrong), Matthew Wojas (Rachel), Peter Wojas (Larissa), Robbie, Brandon and Shayne Jones.
He was Great Uncle to many grand nieces and grand nephews.
Sincere thanks to neighbors, friends and family who provided moral support, kindness and compassion to Bill over the past 3 years, especially his life-long friend Craig Bull and cherished companion Masako Oishi.
Gone too soon but not soon to be forgotten. May he rest in peace. Visitation to take place at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West on Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 1-3pm with a service in the Chapel at 3pm. Cremation to follow. Interment and celebration of life to take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Bill has requested donations to the Canadian Cancer Society be made in the memory of his late wife, Wanda.

“There’s a hole in the world tonight”

I met Billy 31 years ago and he treated me like a little brother. He was young at heart, a youthful lust for living and an emotional ball of compassion who wore his love for everything on his sleeve.

He was always kind to me and my family, I enjoyed many events with Billy over the years. He was 20 years my senior and he included me in with all his friends, most of them much older than him and therefore way older than me. I fondly recall the golf tournament he held annually in his dad’s honour and the dinner after at his place, a scoff like no other. The attendees included the classic ‘goodfellas’. Joe Citrullo, Little Foot, Stan Sr., Ray, Nick the Stick, Larry, and many more with a little golf, a dinner like they were headed to the chair, music, song, jokes from all in attendance and Billy supplied the tears every year when he spoke from the heart about what his dad meant to him. It was beautiful.

Many knew Billy because he was the was the organizer, it could be painful the number of calls and the commitment required months in advance, and good lord don’t no show he would be all over you if that happened. My tee time and the group for the Pasta which he and Nick organized is September 18th, 2023, 11:42 tee time with Fab, Darcy, Larry and I already confirmed last year in advance only to minimize the calls this year, I rest my case, but I would cherish getting one more call now, but I know it won’t come and for this I am very sad.

My condolences to all of Billy family and friends.

When Phil called to share the news of "Chipper's" passing I was at first shocked and then deeply saddened. It was only a few month's earlier that we had teed it up in the Pasta Open at Islington Golf Club, an event Bill and Nick had been running for years. It would be around March that I would get the enthusiastic call inviting me to play as his special guest. "Bill", I would say "It's still ski season" he would remark "put it in your calendar Tootall". Of course I would oblige. I don't know what I did to become a favourite of "Chipper" and why he wanted me in his group... I guess it was always an adventure and we would always have fun. I am going to miss his call but at the same time cherish the good times and laughs we had. I will miss you Billy Jones you were a beauty...

It is with deep sympathy that I write this entry. I only met Bill very
briefly, but I know Mako and I know how both she and Bill regarded
each other as cherished companions. I am deeply sorry for the loss
that all of Bill's family will be feeling at this difficult time as well as
Masako.

Sincerely,

Margaret Deeks

Bill always had a smile for you. He was a nice man with lots of fans at Islington. The pasta open will carry-on in his memory.
