In Celebration of

John Zachar

January 21, 1933 -  September 19, 2022

John passed away peacefully on Monday September 19 at St Joseph’s Health Centre after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. His loving wife Anne and family were by his side. He was in his 89th year.

John met his wife Anne 64 years ago at College and Bathurst in Toronto, near Kensington Market. It was love at first sight. They soon married and shared a beautiful life together, recently celebrating their 62nd wedding anniversary. John was born and raised in Toronto, where he raised his family. John cherished his family and over the years he welcomed many people into his home and made them feel like part of the family. He will be missed dearly by his wife Anne and his three children; Eva, Michael (Debra), Jo Anne (Stefan) and six grandchildren Rebecca, Samantha, Sarah, Sofia, Adela, Felix and his great grandson Charles, along with many nieces and nephews.

John’s career began right after high school, in the design room of the AVRO Arrow. He then moved to CN Telecommunications where he was involved in implementing the CN Tower communications system. John attended night school to become an electronic technologist and was involved in the development of some of the first microwave transmission systems across Canada. John received many awards for his work and was even brought out of retirement to help design child security systems in the US.

John was an avid reader and a true intellectual. His passions included photography, science, nature, watching documentaries and solving math problems. He never stopped learning. He always enjoyed a good debate and his lively discourse will be greatly missed by family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or The Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
