Please join us on Saturday, July 5th, to celebrate the incredible life of John William Chute. Born at Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine on May 22, 1938, John—known fondly as Jack—was the beloved son of John William Chute Sr. and Elizabeth Gertrude Coffey. Jack was predeceased by his siblings, Ann Chute, Mary Chute, Kevin Chute and survived by his sister Patricia Sapir.
Jack leaves behind the love of his life and partner in adventure, his wife Nancy Serblan, his cherished twin daughters Siobhan Brown and Kathleen Marks, his devoted sons-in-law Fraser Brown and Bryan Marks, as well as his treasured grandchildren: Teagan Marks (16), Declan Marks (10), and Kaden Brown (13).
A proud graduate of Cheverus High School, Jack went on to attend Fordham University, later completing his degree at St. John’s University in Queens, New York. With an insatiable love of learning, and sharing all he knew, Jack would often quiz his younger siblings on trips home, testing them on their current affairs knowledge at the kitchen table, New York Times in hand.
After graduation, Jack embraced a new and exciting chapter in life moving to Canada, where he continued his career with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Toronto, Ontario. His entrepreneurial spirit soon led him to strike out on his own, founding John Chute & Associates, where he built a remarkably successful business and earned great respect as an expert in the industry.
Jack was an enthusiastic traveler always ready to jump on a flight, train or boat to go just about anywhere that promised new experiences and excitement. Jack and his wife Nancy, would often travel to Asia where they had family, as well as different parts of Europe, the US and Canada.
Jack, always the life of the party, with a quick wit, long memory and the funniest of stories, knew how to capture the attention and the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to meet him.
We will not say goodbye to a legend, a man larger than life who will be with us always and forever. Jack will live on in the stories we tell to our friends, kids and grandkids. We will forever be grateful he gifted us with his presence, and for every second we spent by his side.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West (at Windermere Avenue) on Saturday, July 5, 2025 from 2-5 p.m. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to The Dorothy Ley Hospice.
