With heavy hearts we share the peaceful passing of John Joseph Matthews (born in Trim, County Meath, Ireland) at St. Joseph’s Health Center on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at age 92. Beloved husband of Ursula and dearest father and father-in-law to Anne Marie, Valerie and Don, Brian and Rosemary, and John Paul and Carolynne. Caring brother to Bernie, and predeceased siblings, Pearl, Lila, Phyllis and Joy. Cherished “Poppa” of Katherine and Will, Mark, Jacqueline, Brendan, Jennifer, Bridget, Andrew, Justis, Gabriel, Avery and Natalie; proud great grandfather of Lyla. Admired brother-in-law of Nancy, Nuala and Seamus; adored uncle to the Clarke’s, Meagher’s, Kerr’s, Chattan’s, Smyth’s and Houlihan’s.

Friends and loved ones may visit at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke, on Thursday, March 30 from 4-8 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 3055 Bloor Street. West, Etobicoke, on Friday, March 31 at 11:00 AM. The Catholic service may be viewed online through the LIVESTREAM link below (the interment will be a private family gathering). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Food for Children and Fontbonne Ministries, esteemed charity organizations supported by John throughout his life.
