In Celebration of

John Emerson Garven

June 7, 1943 -  June 8, 2017

On June 8 Toronto Argos lost their greatest fan. After a heroic struggle with cancer for several years John passed away peacefully with his devoted wife Bonnie (Ewart Garven) by his side. Loved son of the late Pat Garven and William Garven of Vancouver. In addition to Bonnie, John is survived by his two sons Ian (Jen) and Andrew (Charlene), his brother Bill Garven jr., and his beloved “trips” Scott, Todd and Drew. The boys will sorely miss their granddad. John’s life was filled with family, sport and business. He was educated in Canada and England and completed his MBA at Western University in 1966. He operated his business in the food services equipment industry, along with his son Ian, and was known coast to coast until his retirement in 2010. John was the ultimate gentleman who exhibited great strength and caring. He was proudly Canadian and he was very devoted to his family. Bonnie was the love of his life and they spent many years golfing around Canada, England and Scotland. He loved his martinis and relaxing by his waterfall at his country home in Thornbury. The family will receive friends at Turner and Porter Butler Chapel 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke (between Kipling and Islington Aves.) on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. We want to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Princess Margaret Hospital and the caring staff at Dorothy Ley Hospice, especially Dr. Christa Jeney who provided special care for John for many months. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in John’s name to the Dorothy Ley Hospice.

Dear Bonnie, I was so saddened to hear of John's passing. You two had such a wonderful life together, you were truly soul mates. I know you will miss him dearly, but you will have many wonderful memories to keep that smile on your face.
Big hug,
