In Celebration of

John Bowen

April 29, 1946 -  January 20, 2020

On Monday January 20, 2020 John David Bowen passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Sarina, daughter Stephanie (Jeffrey) and son Joshua. His two grandchildren, Jacqueline and Samuel. Brother of Barry (Lynn) and his nephews Jim (Lisa) and Michael (Susanne.) Great niece and nephew Olivia and Christopher.

John was born and raised in the west end of Toronto. He enjoyed summers at the cottage on Lake Simcoe, where he made lifelong friends. After graduating from the University of Western Ontario he embarked on a career in marketing and advertising. John ran a successful advertising agency, Bowen & Binstock, for over 40 years. He was beloved by his colleagues and clients.

It was at Bowen & Binstock he met his wife Sarina. They married in 1983 and they went on to have two beautiful children. As a family they took many vacations, spent summers at the cottage, laughed, joked. John supported his children in all of their endeavours. His love for family was never ending, it was his purpose, and he gave his family the world. He never missed an opportunity to tell them how much he loved them.

Anyone who knew John, knew that he was always ready to listen, give advice, lend a hand or make them laugh. He was a great cook and had a passion for gardening, both at home and at the cottage. He was a man with a booming voice and a gentle heart. He will be greatly missed by all of his family, friends and his dog Gracie.

In the coming days, weeks and months please help us keep his memory alive. Do something in his honour. Tell a joke, comfort someone, check in on a friend, do something for your neighbour, or tell someone how much you love them. Anything that is meaningful and heartfelt. Please think of him while you’re sharing that joy.

On John's behalf, we thank the many doctors and nurses at both Mount Sinai Hospital and Bridgepoint Health for treating John with such love, care and dedication in his final months.

Memorial donations may be made to the Tuberous Sclerosis fund at SickKids Foundation online at www.sickkidsfoundation.com or by phone at 416-813-6166.

We were so saddened to hear of John's passing. Thank you for the frequent updates throughout his treatment. He's been a fixture since we were kids. A summer was never complete without several passes by John, shirtless and shoeless, down the cottage road. He was a sure sign summer was in full swing. His laughter, jokes and booming voice will be missed but remembered so fondly. Our deepest sympathies. ... Karen and family.

Dear Sarina and family,
I am saddened to hear the news of John’s passing . I have very fond memories of John at the cottage . He was always eager to have a conversation, play Jewish Geography, share a joke , and always asked about my family . I will miss the sound of the sit on mower going up an down Glenhaven beach road - John’s mode of transport on the road . He prided himself on not attending the cottage road association meetings ( him just being contrarian) . I’m sure he was filled in by Craig Bennet!
He will be missed by all who knew him.
May his memory be a blessing.
