In Celebration of
Johanna "Jean" Sadak
September 20, 1935 -
April 14, 2023
Passed away peacefully at the age of 87 surrounded by the love of her family.
Jean was the beloved Wife of the late Chester Sadak and mother of Genevieve Sadak, Lisa Simone and Walter Sadak. Jean was the cherished Nana of Jacqueline, Julia, Genevieve, Michael, Alexander and Brenna. Jean is survived by her beloved sister Stella Carter.
Jean, a first generation Canadian of Polish descent was born in Creighton Mines, Ontario. She spent her youth in Bowmanville going to school in a one room schoolhouse while working on the family farm. Many stories of farm life with her parents, sister and brothers demonstrated her family values and approach to life through hard work. After graduating with a Secretarial Certificate, she enjoyed her work outside of the home. She had lifelong friends and many happy memories starting her career at General Motors, Oshawa. Later, Jean’s work at Revlon’s Company Store in Mississauga gave her the opportunity to share her love of cosmetics with countless people who always would comment on her sense of style and fantastic skin and makeup.
Jean married the love of her life, Chester in 1962 and they shared many happy days together. During those 53 years they enjoyed many family vacation road trips to Florida in the winter, and Bobcaygeon in the summer. They also travelled to Venezuela, Columbia, Italy and the Dominican. Jean was always at Chesso’s side supporting him through his career, enjoying Blue Jay games, sharing a laugh and being friends through all good and tough times.
Jean was a devoted Mom. She was always focused on teaching her children and later her grandchildren. From being responsible and self-assured, to making perogies and a killer apple pie, Jean loved to show her family the way to get it done.
She was so proud to see all her children grow and loved to know where all her grandchildren were heading in their lives. A great deal of time was spent with Genevieve and Lisa learning new cooking techniques, planning family events and passing on her life lessons of consistent hard work and the value of a dollar. Walter, the apple of her eye, was always at her side and Jean was so happy to see him continue to look after the home and be her right-hand man after Chester passed.
Jean’s keen sense of style was the marvel of all. Even as she grew older, she would put herself forward with bright colors, a trendy outfit and makeup including a statement red lip. Jean looked many years younger than she was, all thanks to her contagious smile. She loved to walk, exercise on her rowing machine or stationary bike and taught herself to swim at the age of 60!
Jean was working toward starting a specialized treatment this week and fought to spend her last day at home as well as to visit with her sister Stella before she left to be with her beloved family waiting in Heaven.
Jean greatly appreciated the special care and ongoing support of Dr. Brian Higgins, Trillium Health Partners Oncology.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made through Trilliumgiving.ca in Memory of Johanna Sadak and these donations will support the Oncology Department.

Please feel free to wear a bit of colour, as Jean loved to style herself the same way.
