In Celebration of

Joao Cabaco

September 18, 1932 -  April 17, 2016

It is with heavy hearts that we must announce the passing of João Martins Cabaço. A wonderful husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend, João loved and was loved by many over his 83 years of life.

João married the love of his life, Libania Dinis Cabaço, in 1958. As a young couple, they immigrated to Canada to begin a new journey together. He and his wife welcomed their first child, Libania, in 1963. Soon after, he attained work as a Longshoreman, working laborious hours to support his new family.

In 1968, a second bundle of joy arrived. João proudly named his only son John.

When his buddies at the dock invited him out after work, João would politely decline to spend more time with his wife, daughter, and son, whom he was was completely dedicated to. Short in stature but muscular and full of vigour, he loved playing with his kids in the ocean back home in Terceira, Açores.

João was also a proud and loving grandfather to Peter and Anna (Libania), and Valerie and Jean Luc(John). He spent many dedicated years caring for Peter and Anna. Being an accomplished trumpeter himself, he was elated to witness them excel in their musical pursuits. João was always so excited when Valerie and Luc came to visit. He beamed with joy when Valerie ran to hug him, and laughed watching Luc joke around.

João, we love you. Until we meet again.
