In Celebration of

Joanne Kathleen Johnson

April 23, 1951 -  September 10, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joanne Kathleen Johnson on September 10, 2025, at Credit Valley Hospital. Joanne was born in Etobicoke on April 23, 1951, to the late Kay and Ted Frost. Left to mourn Joanne’s passing are her loving husband Paul, her brother Phil (Arun Rangaswami), nieces Alexandra (Will) and Adelle Frost, nephews Garrett (Emily) and Jordan (Amanda) Frost, and their children Audrey and Liam, and brother and sister-in-law, David Johnson and Rosalie Gillis. Joanne was blessed with many close friends and family who will miss her dearly. Besides her parents, Joanne was pre-deceased by her brother Paul, sister-in-law Mareta Frost, brother-in-law Gil Robison, in-laws Blanche and Charlie Johnson, and brother-in-law Murray Johnson.

Joanne was so accomplished, it is difficult to describe her impact on the world in a few sentences. She was an elementary school teacher in the Peel District School Board for decades, inspiring so many children to read and learn. Miss Frost, later Mrs. Johnson could be counted on to help her students in any way she could. Teaching was a passion and a calling for Joanne, and there are many students who can attest to her joy in helping them learn. Joanne also made lifelong friends with many of her co-workers, continuing to have regular ballet outings, euchre and bridge tournaments and just getting together for fun, long after retiring from teaching.

Joanne loved to travel and visited most of Canada, and much of the US in her earlier years, as well as doing a study semester in France. She and Paul took many trips south and in recent years also enjoyed river cruises in Europe. On a recent cruise down the Danube, the cruise director spotted Joanne’s joie de vivre and convinced her to accompany him in a wonderful duet of Can’t Help Falling in Love, to the delight of all the passengers and crew. That was Joanne.

Joanne was an amazing gardener, cook, and host. She developed a beautiful garden oasis at her home that allowed her to watch the birds come and go, which she loved, especially the cardinals. To be invited to Paul and Joanne’s house meant you would be treated to the warmest welcome and best food, along with great conversation and fun. Their table at Thanksgiving and Christmas would be filled with family and friends, Joanne making sure that anyone in her circle that might be alone for those holidays would have a place at the table.

Joanne’s warm spirit and love will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Joanne’s life on Saturday, September 27 at the Church of the Holy Spirit of Peace, 1170 Tynegrove Road, Mississauga. Visitation will be at 2:00 pm, service at 3:00 pm, followed by a reception. Should you wish to make a donation in Joanne’s memory, please consider the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

If you are unable to attend, you can watch a livestream of the service at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86506262245?pwd=5gwVn7njoVNNffobLpcb6no7ylWmU7.1.

Joanne was a wonderful friend to my family for 3 generations. She gave the special gift of her "time" to all of us and we will never forget how kind and thoughtful she always was. May her memory be a blessing to all who loved her.

So sad to hear of Joanne’s passing, a dear friend. Education, Music, bridge, gardening were all interests we shared. Joanne was such a strong caregiver to many others. It is so difficult to witness her illness and decline over the past few months.

Thoughts and prayers to Paul, her brother, and extended family.

I will miss my lifelong friend. We went to Kindergarten together, shared many days playing in each others yards, skating rinks and cottage. We attended teachers college together and kept in touch throughout or careers. More recently we enjoyed our monthly get together. Joanne was the most caring, special person who helped anyone in need. Rest peacefully Joanne, I treasure the memories our 70 plus years!
