In Celebration of

Joan Varty

May 17, 1925 -  August 20, 2017

Peacefully on Sunday, August 20, 2017, at the age of 92. Devoted wife of 68 years to the late Dr. Earle James Varty. Loving mother of Anne Bannon, David Varty, the late Steven Varty and the late Lynne Osborne. Cherished grandmother and great-grandmother. Beloved sister of Douglas L. Aitchison (Joanne). Caring aunt of several nieces and nephews. Dear cousin of a few near and a few far away. Trusted friend of many, especially Glenna Maurer, pals from birth. Joan grew up in small town Ontario, moving as father Lorne’s career with the Railroad dictated. She graduated as a Registered Nurse and truly loved the profession. She paused her career to raise her family in west end Toronto, then returned to it until her retirement. Joan always had a twinkle in her eyes, helpful advice to offer and engaged everyone with her clever witticisms and topical banter. Joan absolutely loved her time spent at her cottage, delighting in all the seasons as they changed on the shore of Georgian Bay. Many thanks to all Staff at Eatonville Care Centre and her personal care companion. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W. (east of Jane Subway) on Monday, August 28, 2017 from 2 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service in the Chapel at 3 p.m. If desired, remembrances may be made to the Arthritis Society or Myeloma Canada. Online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca.
